After the come from behind win in Minnesota, Hollinger's automated rankings calculator has spoken. Rank : 6th in the NBA. Rating 104.651 Ahead of... the Knicks, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State and the Lakers. Playoff Odds : 88% Ok, I know it's Hollinger's, and it's updated after every game so we shouldn't put too much faith in it. Still, we should enjoy it while we can. This may be the best ranking we'll see all season, especially going into nights 3/4 of a 4/5 @SAS and vsOKC in back to backs. Are we the 6th best team in the NBA right now? Nope. Still, nice to see we're playing like the 6th best team right now.
I know as a Rockets nut I luv seeing us bump up the list....but it's also a wish list sometimes right?...lol Go Baby Rockets !
Pfft. Don't you pay attention to the marketing material? It's a "New Age!". 13 new players, this Roster has to be judged on it's own merits, not the failures of previous years.
That rank is likely to go down after the next two games though. SA and Thunder are similar teams to the Rockets in style, except they're BETTER at it. Thunder being a home game is basically nullified by the fact that we're at the end of a 4-in-5. But if they go 1-2 to end the year, I'll be happy. If they somehow go 2-1, I'd be ecstatic.
Past performance has no bearing in our current environment! A few wins will propel us into the 95%+. keep the faith, bro!
Then who is the 6th best team? Imho nothing is and everything is in a continuous state of change... Alfred Korzybski criticized the use of the verb "to be", and stated that, "Any proposition containing the word 'is' [or its other forms 'are,' 'be', etc.] creates a linguistic structural confusion which will eventually give birth to serious fallacies. btw ever heard of e-prime? E-Prime (short for English-Prime, sometimes denoted E′) is a prescriptive version of the English language that excludes all forms of the verb to be. E-Prime does not allow the conjugations of to be—be, am, is, are, was, were, been, being— the archaic forms of to be (e.g. art, wast, wert), or the contractions of to be—'s, 'm, 're (e.g. I'm, he's, she's, they're). Some scholars advocate using E-Prime as a device to clarify thinking and strengthen writing.[1] For example, the sentence "the film was good" could translate into E-Prime as "I liked the film" or as "the film made me laugh". The E-Prime versions communicate the speaker's experience rather than judgment, making it harder for the writer or reader to confuse opinion with fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-Prime
This ranking is going to change a lot till playoff time I be happy if the Rockets can hover around #6. What about the Clippers being #1? They are the hottest team right now, but I dont think they can stay at #1. OKC and Miami are still the best teams, and I think they are just saving their best play for the post season.
I think we had like 98% chance of making it, I remember it being a low percentage. Still a disappointing end to last season.
Well, let's think about the top 6 teams. In no particular order, Miami, OKC, SAS, Memphis, Clippers for sure in the top 5 in my opinion. After that, it would probably be either the Knicks, Golden State, or maybe Denver. Chicago when Rose gets back, Minnesota once Love and Rubio are 100% have to be in the conversation as well. I don't think we're better than the Knicks in the larger sense of the word, though we are a great match up against them. Golden State has had a soft schedule, but I don't think we're a stronger team than them either. And Denver is like us but further ahead on the curve. I think we *might* crack the top 10 in teams this year. That would be a heck of an accomplishment in my books. Of course, with the team still developing I wouldn't rule anything short of a WCF appearance out. Loads of upside on this team.
If we can stay healthy for the entire season, I truly believe we are one of the top 7 teams in the NBA. Elite Teams: Miami, OKC, Clippers, Spurs Very Good Teams: Rockets, Knicks, Grizzlies
In this case, the SOS (strength of schedule) statistic is interesting. Rockets - tied for 6th toughest SOS. Behind (relevant teams) are ... : Memphis, Wolves, Jazz, Lakers, Mavs, Warriors, and Blazers... all teams contending for playoff spots.
everyone is freaking out about our january schedule, look at GSWs (through 23rd): Clippers Clippers Grizzlies Blazers Nuggets Heat Spurs hornets Clippers Thunder ill be shocked if we arent in front of them after that stretch. If not then they are legit
