He's what you'd call a poor man's stretch 4, with potential left to improve. Mostly he is sort of an offensive swiss army knife at PF. Just wish he'd work on his rebounding, but I'd just like one chance to see how D'Antoni uses him.
In Bima's post, it says he can't be traded without consent UNTIL December 2nd 2017, so yes. To me, that's clearly Dmo and his agent making sure he isn't dumped to the highest bidder this summer. Which could throw a wrench in Morey's plans if we try to clear cap this summer for a free agent, it just depends on how picky Dmo is on where he goes.
There is nothing unique to this offer sheet about the player having veto rights over any trade for a full year. That applies to EVERY offer sheet matched. Literally EVERY restricted free agent has this right when his offer sheet is matched.
Would you consider the difference between a player who makes .4 three's on .299%, and one who makes .5 three's on .308% to be substantial? Like substantial enough to call one player a stretch 4, and the other T_ones? Lulz, just yanking you man.
Yep, i also like to think that Doc would do everything he can to avoid tanking so, in a scenario were Griffin (and probably Paul) leaves, it would be pretty good for him to have Ryan to pair with DeAndre, and they should've the cap space to make a good offer to Hayward, Lowry, Holiday or whoever Doc wants.
That's not a contract negotiation, it's just a CBA rule. It's just the way it is. Any matched Offer Sheet has a year of veto power for the player starting the day of signing. So, he could have signed one in September, and made it to Fall camp (or Harden's mini-camps), and be solidly in the rotation already, and still have veto power all through 2017 summer. So as you say, that too "could throw a wrench in Morey's plans to clear up cap this summer for a FA", as all the good free agents would be signed by then. And since Morey's MO is to have RFAs bring him offer sheet to match, he basically blessed this whole CBA rule to give DMo veto power for a year.
Its hard to gauge the Rockets. If it's Morey, he likes salary flexibility and the $5 mil cap hit (cut by March 1st) is a little tight around the collar and "may" prevent options of a particular trade at the trade deadline, even with other cuts and/or buy-outs on the team. Les Alexander is a business man first....but has big loyal heart a close second. I accept D-Mo coming back (gives another post up presence which will give Harden some rest for occasional plays) Can hit some 3's; but D-Mo has hit over 29% from three only once in 4 reg seasons, a career PER of 12.4 (I believe), injury history, stats on reoccurrence of lower back pain within two years are a high % (i would look to see if conditioning/rehab of 2-3 days a week of one hr as mandatory in contract), asking a guy with history of back pain to wrestle with 265 lb monsters in the paint and run the court at (hopefully) higher pace than current pace. I'm leaning towards, "Good luck in Brooklyn."
I guess the rehab part is too hard to enforce and probably too small to void a contract if non compliant. Glad I don't have to make the decision. Too risky for me.
He shot .368 in his last fully healthy season. Not saying DMo is as good a shooter as Anderson, but Ryno shot .366 last season in NO. DMo has decent accuracy to be a "stretch player." His problem is slow release. He has to be wide open to be a real threat. That said, he brings some things to the table Anderson does not.
Yup, also by the time the playoffs rolled around he finally started hitting his stroke to where he hit 44% in the playoffs last season. For sure he's not a 3 point specialist like Ryan Anderson, but you don't have to be a 3 point specialist to be a stretch 4.
From now (20 games into the season) until March 1st......I guesstimate about 35 games. $5 mil for 35 games. Subtract something like 18 games in March and about 9 in April. True, 44% in 5 playoff games last year. He and Bev played well.
It's not $5 million. That just gets you to January 10. From January 10 until March 1, that figure will be at least $8.3 million (possibly a little more).
Oh thanks. 15 games in March and 6 in April. About 41 games. If he were to play now. He may need to workout a bit.
This is going to be another DMo is rusty for like 3 months episode. by the time he's getting his groove on the season will be over and some random shet will happen that prevent him from fully committing
It's not the money only. Why would you work DMo into the rotation at the expense of developing Dekker/Harrel, who are both 2nd year players but effectively rookies in terms of experience, only to cut him in March. Those games and minutes are important to gauge how reliable Dekker/Harrel will be in the event we trade players in front of them for depth, which shouldn't be wasted on DMo if we weren't intent on keeping him until Dec 2017. I think the contract is certainly fair for DMo, and we can certainly use DMo. But in the grand scheme of things, DMo isn't the different between 1st/2nd round and championships, and it may be better for us to develop Dekker/Harrel, and not to be tied up with the DMo uncertainties. The other risk is injury. If DMo reinjures himself after March, we may be stuck with him for the duration of 2017/18 season (untradable other than for cap relief) and that may be too much of a risk with EGo and RAnderson on board already. On the other hand, these are the risks that Brooklyn are in a position to take, given their alternatives are currently DLeague to end of NBA bench level players.
