You've just got to hope they've done better evaluating players this go around. I don't think much was ever expected from Bergstom to begin with.
I get that. FA is risky. Not every signee will pan out. I just don't see how we can conclude they are doing things different this year.
Yep. I don't think anyone expected Allen to be this bad. Hopefully the law of averages or something like that will be in our favor this time
Allen had 1 year of high grades by PFF when Texans signed him. Fulton for example was ranked 4th best pass blocking guard last season by PFF when he did play the position. And near the top in fewest pressures allowed since 2015. This one looks to be an upgrade on paper for sure.
Brian Gaine - Yes I would like to put in an order - “4 Tony Bergstroms.” Coming right up! = Free Agency
Plenty of variables to assume it could very easily go better. We shall see. Allens one high graded year was sandwiched imbetween 4 extremely poor. Fulton has 3 consistent above avg last 3 years, excelling in pass blocking. Ill take the Fulton/Kelemete over the Allen/Bergstrom combo on paper all day.
The thing that confused me that year was letting Brooks walk then get Allen. Almost like thinking Allen was an upgrade. I think we have upgraded from XSF.
I'd go for it, he's pretty good and it would shut up certain knuckle draggers that claim to be "Texans fans"....at least for a little while. Obviously it has a chance to divide the locker room if he decides to be a problem, but I think there's enough leadership on defense to prevent that.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't mind what the Texans have done with the offensive line so far. They weren't going to fix it this offseason with as weak as the o-line market was. So rather than break the bank on an average guy like Solder, they've gotten serviceable young guys with upside at reasonable deals. Not all of them will pan out, but they'll almost certainly be better and deeper on the line than last year. And they can continue to add linemen in the draft and look to improve on that weakness over time.
