Which is why I'm dumbfounded that Rick Smith gets a "pass"... and so many here were quick to jump on the "Keep Rick Smith" bandwagon. He's failed at both aspects of his potential GM roles... limited draft talent year after year, limited depth, and now cap hell. Even if you feel he wasn't the main personnel guy (which I don't think he was), that leaves him with only ONE responsibility... manage the cap. Be able to not get "emotional" about players when contract extensions are being discussed. Be able to CUT serviceable players, even if they're contributing, because the team has more needs elsewhere. Right now, I think the Texans front office is in disarray... and I have very little confidence that Rick Smith knows what he is doing.
Browns, Jags, and Skins have had plenty of big name visits. If they were serious about wanting them here, they'd come.
Yes I did notice that. BUT, if your theory applies to the Broncos, it should hold true for the Texans because we were only six games better than them from '07-'11... And it's not like we made the playoffs before that....
I hope you are just being intellectually dishonest because despite the fact that they had the worst record in the league last year, I doubt anyone thinks the Texans are the worst team.
What theory? That drafting poorly and not signing anyone creates cap space? I already explained this. The Texans got more talent from that era, but did less with it. Now they've got a bunch of bills due and nothing to show for it. They're in a cap situation that you'd expect from a Superbowl contender, not the worst team in the league.
Do you want me to dig up a list of all the people who visited the worst team in the league last year (Chiefs) at the start of FA last year? They weren't exactly hurting for visitors.
This is getting kinda comical, but how about the Colts the year before. Or were last year's Texans the worst team in the history of the NFL?
both of the Texans wins could have easily went the other way... 0-16 was very possible. so yes, '13 texans were one of the worst teams in nfl history.
You probably don't want to ask that unless you want someone to embarrass themselves by answering with something stupid.
You've been doing a heck of a job doing that for months now. Anyways, who cares about free agent signings on THIS team? It's all about the draft, the core and weeding out the garbage.
Or its what happens when your GM was really only hired to be a figure-head/cap-manmager by the previous HC (who was the real GM)... and he just happened to squirm his way into the owner's "circle of trust" enough to keep his job that he was never qualified for in the first place.
Actually that physical saved them from making a terrible mistake. See the size of that contract? For a guy that can't stay on the field. Very Raider-like.
