If someone had a pet pig and this same thing happened, I guess there would be outrage there too. It's not so much the animal species, but rather the relationship of the animal to the passenger. We value animal companionship. It's not really hypocritical; lack of concern over treatment of industrialized farm animals is a separate (legitimate) issue.

Don’t know if this helps but I just went in the side house and culled 4 fattened rabbits. Probably should of done it a month ago but was out of town. Rabbit soup is amazing. If you haven’t had it, I strongly suggest it. Also don’t worry I gave the ears and feet to the dogs. Everything except the intestines and brains are used. The dogs tend to avoid the intestines and I have my reasons to avoid the brains.
