Maybe BOB likes Keenum and feels he can coach him up so building a scary defense might be priority number 1 watt and clowney will cause nightmares for offensive lineman and QBs
Keenum will not be the starter ( He cant read a blitz) I like the Guy but he just cant read a blitz he doesnt react.. Had more than 6 games to do it... I dount will take Keenum.. Usually new coaches want to bring in their Guy... And Bill O Brien is an offensive Mind Coach, therefore i would assume he will want a QB
look at what Seattle and SF did Step 1: Acquire amazing defense Step 2: Get a legit running game (Beast mode Lynch + Frank Gore) Step 3: Get a 2nd or 3rd round QB who can be a game manager (Wilson, Kaep) and not screw up too bad Step 4: Play in NFC championship games
I think 49ers had Alex Smith when they picked Kap and Seatle had just signed Matt Cassel (Who they thought was their QB)... They happen to hit on their picks and made their QB's starters . Seattle after Training camp and KAp was starting after Alex Smith got Hurt... But those to teams have coached that were not scared to make that decision.. I hope the Bill will bring that attitude and if he sees a player that he feels is better he will nto hesitate to start them.
Ok so Step 1. Clowney Step 2. Foster please stay healthy/backup Step 3. AJ mccarron Step 4. Play in AFC championship games
I guess with his size Clowney would be a 3-4 end? Was Watt a defensive tackle in college? Both Mario and Merciless were moved to line backer because neither was a 3-4 defensive end.
Romeo + Watt + Clowney + Cushing = boom they might be so good that even our secondary will look good.
If you can't get an elite QB which is hard to do... then get a defense together that can keep a QB from being elite (which the Texans are in position to do) and develop a good QB.
Reading blitzes is not a learned skill? You either have it or you don't? And the offensive line is not even a factor? How about protection schemes? Our coaching staff was so dull, I don't know if Kennum got a fair shake. I think OBrien will be able to figure it out, and Kennum might get another chance.
If we don't go QB at #1 overall (or top 10 pick with a small trade down) what scenario could you see where Keenum is not the starter?
IIRC Seth Payne was saying that Clowney is the same size our new linebackers coach Mike Vrabel was when he was in Crennel's defense, so Clowney could potentially be an outside linebacker, if the Texans draft him.
