That's very true, and I am glad they scheduled them. But for every big football program school, they have New Mexico States, Notre Dames and North Texas-es.
It was 2001 (so dome not Reliant) but yes. UH should of moved it to the Astrodome and anyone who saw the temp stands sitting on small pieces of plywood instead of in the ground with concrete would of know they would never pass inspection. It has been enough time but UH would have to agree to play at Reliant until something better is on campus.
Didn't know it was a bad thing to root for a good team. "Bandwagon" is just an excuse fans of crappy programs use, since they aren't good enough to have a fan base themselves. I guess all of us are bad bandwagon fans for rooting for the Bulls during the Jordan era, right?
I never rooted for the Bulls, and I would say that anyone who rooted for them who wasn't from Chicago or didn't have Chicago roots and only became a Bulls fans because of MJ is the very definition of a bandwagon fan.
This is question is pretty simple.. 1963 Kennedy speech at Rice... Thats it simple.. its tradition for Texas to come in and beat Rice... Simply because Rice likes the challenge
1. It's does not benefit Texas to play any tricky opposition, with this broken system we have, Texas can play a weak schedule, beat Oklahoma, and play for the national title. Don't blame them for doing the smart thing. 2. U of H would have to play in Reliant, and give up a lot of the gate. (non-negotiable) 3.Houston has a screwy offense that takes a lot of time to prepare for, Mack wants to get his boys ready for Big 12 play, he doesn't want to take a whole week simply preparing for Houston. 4.High-risk, low reward. Houston is good enough to give Texas a game, but if Texas loses to them, it will be viewed as a bad loss, and it would be perceived as a mediocre win (to the national media). 5.They want to play in Houston, and Rice is just safer. Programs like Texas (and most other superpowers) see only green. If a matchup has no real benefit to them, they won't take it, simple. I personally would love to see Texas come to town and beat up on U of H, they have the worst fan bases in the entire country. One of the funnest offenses you will ever see, winning, and a giant student body and fans still can't fill a small stadium. If you want to talk smack with the big boys, at least support your own team. ( the mayweather analogy doesn't hold, Texas has to play a superpower eventually, he is just gonna hide like a biznatch)
Ummm...Houston's opener was a sellout (I was there, it was packed) and that was against a crap team in Texas State. Houston is definitely a fickle city, but now that they have a fun and winning program I can see them selling out every home game this season. The reasons you listed are spot on though.
Schedules are made years in advance, you really thought UT was afraid of UH years ago before they got good recently. Better question is why is UH playing Texas State?
If you mean winning programs with good head coaches and constant 100% attendance, yes, we are similar.
Because if you pit UT and UH together and change the second U to an A it spells UTAH. <a href="http://photobucket.com/images/bad%20joke" target="_blank"><img src="http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa28/Doomstar16/1212392938686.jpg" border="0" alt="Bad joke Pictures, Images and Photos"/></a>
The UH fan base is not the greatest. Went to the Rice game two years ago and there were not many UH fans, considering that we were playing for a shot at the C-USA title game. The game felt like something from Madden, and both teams had talent Casey, Keenum, Vollmer. I think it comes down to geography or what real estate agents say: location, location, location. The schools in the middle of the ghetto, everyone lives off campus, and there are more 25+/married/parent undergrad students than you will find at most universities. I think this leads to a type of camaraderie that is less than you would find at campuses like UT, A&M, Rice and TTU.
I dunno, I know they excused our playing a SWAAC teams for a couple years running there as a concession to one of their political allies on Houston City Council. Does Texas State count as a win with regards to bowl consideration. I noticed there was an actual Vegas line which there isn't when we play SWAAC opposition. Anyway UCLA in LA, Tech @ Lubbock and Mississippi State at home is a non conference schedule that UH can be proud of! (I mean it's not Wyoming and Florida Atlantic or anything...but we can only dream about getting such powerhouses to play us.)
I was wondering why George Bush decided to invade Iraq. Also, do you agree with Roe V Wade? And what about organized religion? Is it legit? Is Obama a Socialist? Sincerely, chocolatebear P.S. What are your thoughts about throwing puppies into a river? What about cats? Do you like them? TIA. P.S.S. Is DaDakota a good poster or not? And how do you feel about the Ground Zero Mosque?
What he said... Besides games are scheduled years in advance and I just don't see this happening again...I wish it would...
