I know we got a win out of this one but... ...this could be dangerous. I mean we just saw how bad it can be. Imagine being a Kings fan. I didn't see any foul by Hill on Gordon and the refs called it even AFTER the REVIEW!! This is pretty much a blank check to the refs. Too much power! PS> I didn't even know they can do this now...until after they made this call! I thought they were just reviewing it to see who the ball went out of off.
Nope. They where only reviewing to see who it went off of. But then made the change to a foul call. There was no foul called on the floor prior.
they said the refs didnt make that call it comes from the review team in new jersey. i would only like that rule in instances where a defender hacks someone across the forearm causing them to lose the ball out of bounds. instead of saying its out on the offensive player since technically they touched it last, they can call the foul. other than that i dont like this.
Why would they need to review the foul call? I mean you know who the foul would have been on if there was one. George Hill.
I heard Ackerman said the ref from the weakside called the foul but the ref closest called it out on Gordon. They reviewed and upheld the foul call.. They were a bit confused too though.
I didn’t know you can no longer call timeouts to move the ball to half court anymore. That’s pretty big also.
I honestly didn't know about this until today either lol. I completely agree with getting the call right but I also see what jeff van gundy is saying about it killing the excitement and real time investment into the game
We would have heard about this rules change, right? That would have been big news. This would be a bad rules change, imo. Craig Ackerman seemed confused saying the foul was already called. Been then why review? Maybe to see if it was a foul before the inbounds, which would be a technical foul. Here's the rules. This page is current right? Let me know if you see anything that allows a foul to be called during a review. http://www.nba.com/official/instant-replay-guidelines.html
This rule would have screwed them over even more against the Lakers. Although, not like Dick Bevetta needed replays to award the ball to Lakers on every play.
If the foul occurs before the inbounds, then is is also a technical foul and ball out of bounds. That's the only thing I can think of. It would be the review guideline that covers timing of a foul. fwiw: Karl Malone bear hugging Drexler was occuring before the inbounds pass to Stockton. That is a technical foul, shots, and ball out of bounds.
Hill hit Gordon's arm didn't he? Like poked Gordon's arm to prevent Gordon a clean catch on the ball (hence out of bounds on Gordon). Whether they can review the call to determine whether or not it was a foul? That's confusing. Even if one official called a foul, and another called out of bounds, surely the review can't determine if it was a foul or not?
They can review things involving the timing of fouls. In this case, if the foul called on the floor happened before the ball was inbounded, then it is a technical foul, shots and ball out of bounds. That's all I can think of. That would be a major rules change, and we heard nothing about it. Do you see anything in these guidelines saying they can make a foul call? Let me know if you do. I can't find anything. http://www.nba.com/official/instant-replay-guidelines.html
