Just for some perspective --- When Anderson Silva won the belt -the other UFC champions were Tim Sylvia (HW), Chuck Liddell (LHW), Matt Hughes (WW) and Sean Sherk (LW) (who had won his title moments before). All of them wold lose their belts within a year and none are currently actively fighting in the UFC. The belts have since changed hands (not including interim titles) 5 (HW) 6 (LHW) 3 (WW) and 3 (LW) times. There were of course no Featherweight, Bantamweight, flyweight or women's divisions. -Of the current UFC champions only GSP was under Zuffa employment. Jon Jones had not yet made his MMA debut and Cain Velasquez had only had 1 fight. -Of the current top ten middleweights only Yushin Okami was in the UFC. -The most recent UFC card had featured Ken Shamrock in the main event. Royce Gracie had also fought in the UFC in the same year. -Less than half of the total number of UFC cards that have taken place by now (June 2013) had happened. -Strikeforce, WEC and Pride all still existed as independent promotions. -The consensus #1 p4p fighter (Fedor) was not a UFC fighter. -George W. Bush was president of the U.S. and the republicans controlled the house and the senate. Most heads of government around the world have changed at least once since then. -Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden and what's his face in Libya were all still alive. -The Departed was the #1 movie at the box office -iphones and ipads didn't exist. -Most people didn't use facebook. --------------------------------------------- If Weidman does manage to beat him (I still favor Silva) it truly will be the end of an era.
