I was referring to unemployed people finally finding work by monetizing their own car.

depends. . . is it a NICE car . . . poor cars might get poor ratings
and evidently uber will kick them out if that happens
    [poor ratings]

And they may or may not go to 'those neighborhoods'

People from 'those neighborhoods' don't really use taxi's... or apps on expensive smart phones.

    But taxis do?

And are you suggesting that rich people drive other people around in their uber cars?

Also, how are uber and lyft drivers screened? Taxi drivers go through a training course and are still pretty terrible. I actually expect guys smart enough to use apps to be more savvy drivers.. maybe young college kids or degree holders wiht no income

A basic interview is probably good enough of a screen

Drug test, mental health background... most cabbies in boston/ny have poor mental health. wasnt the least bit surprised when i ride about that cabbie getting road rage and running over a tourist's foot.

Everything is done online. I just had to consent to a full background check and upload documents like insurance, license and registration. Once approves they mail you an iPhone with their app and you're ready to roll. I've never met with anyone at Uber.

They charge drivers $10 a week for the data on your iPhone and 20% from fares. I average around 1300 a week not counting gas and other expenses. My best weekend was when George straight had his farewell concert. I made $1100 in two days.

That is impressive.. how many hours do you work for that 1300? Do lyft drivers make the same amount?

Awesome. Merica, turn your car into a business with no one's permission.

How many hours of driving per week?

Not sure about lyft. I work from 40-60hrs a week. I have a little tactic on where and when I pick up clients. I don't do the club crowds or late night clients. Too many drunks.

Free water, WiFi, every charger known to man, Ipad with rhapsody in the back connected to Bluetooth so they can choose the music they like. I always open the door and make sure the temperature is to their liking. People aren't supposed to tip, but I make about 200 a week in cash tips.

You create your own hours correct? For example if I can't sleep one night, can I just activate myself and wait for a customer to contact me?

Uber will provide special financing for drivers to purchase new cars. They also just worked out a deal with firestone, we get tires and service 10% above cost.

Yes. You work at your own time schedule. Only if you go a few weeks inactive, they'll send you an email asking if you still are interested.

It also depends on the type of Uber driver you are. I'm an Uber Black car driver, so I always where a suit and keep it professional. Uber X is more casual so I guess you could sit at home and wait for a fair.
