Don't forget having to listen to the cab drivers shouting in Punjabi or Hindi or whatever on their hands free while you're just trying to get to Point B.
Right - I'm saying what makes Uber great is the app and it's functionality. Cabs should try to partner specifically with them instead of fighting them. I don't think people love Uber because the drivers are not cabbies or whatnot - they love it specifically because of the quality of the app.
Feedback from those that have rode with me is that they love it due to all of these reasons. Friendlier drivers, cleanliness of vehicles, quality of app, cost, etc. The Taxi industry would need to address all of these areas to better compete with Uber and even then it is probably too late to sway people back to cabs. I hear "I will never take another cab again" from a majority of the people I have driven around.
Can you explain surge prices? Is it a standard period of time on weekend nights? or just whenever they have high demand?
We had Outside Lands Music Fest last weekend, and the surge pricing was 5X given the sheer number of concert goers.
surge pricing makes perfect sense, if you are in higher demand (or low supply in the case of bad weather), you should get paid more
No. I am referenced the GOOD and BAD portions and how to resolve the issue I think the Cabbies and their union should embrace the Tech but I also agree that it hurts the poor and the cabbies I agreed with points one can view and see without using the service Rocket River Clarification
Hurts the poor? How so? Part of Major's post referenced what people like about it. You really need to use it to know what it's really about.
Thanks, I appreciate the link. Is this something that they activate frequently? I am headed to San Antonio and was planning to use it Saturday night between hotel and restaurants.
Its actually helped the poor quite a bit - lot of people who were unemployed have now found a way to bring in income by becoming Uber drivers.
