NYE email from Uber... Probably better to take a taxi tonight. With more than two million rides tonight, we expect New Year's Eve to be our busiest night ever-which means fares could get expensive. Busy nights require surge pricing to get enough cars on the road and ensure you always have a reliable ride. On New Year's Eve, everyone is looking for rides at exactly the same times, and Houston has an incredibly busy night ahead. We expect the highest demand and highest fares between 12:30 and 2:30 AM, where an average ride at 2 AM could be over $100. To avoid these high fares, don't request during these two hours - catch a ride right when the ball drops at midnight or wait a couple hours for prices to return to normal.
without allowing the surge pricing, there is no incentive for more drivers to activate in response to a surge in demand, and you won't be able to find a ride basic economics, price ceilings cause shortages edit: see felix's post above for an illustration of this
Felt like a kid again with those fireworks last night. Just a few friends having fun with some weed and fireworks. Real chill night. I'm glad I decided to get by butt out. Hope everyone had a safe night.
I have had nothing but good experiences using this in Dallas, Denver and Chicago. The black car drivers have always been great and while usually great uberx occasionally has a driver you have to instruct on the route which is not uncommon with cabs. Have never had an uberx car that was a beater car.
Never used Uber but I thought there was some type of minimum standards for vehicles. Will definitely avoid.
I can promise you the beater that showed up for us was from the 90s. I stick with Uber black car now when needed. Just a few bucks more and the drivers are excellent with very clean vehicles and not once have I been asked for directions.
I can see it now, the Uber serial killer. Picking customers up and never seen again until random body parts show up. The media is salivating for this to happen. Media wants a new Craigslist killer.
I took an Uber from downtown to Westchase yesterday morning and cost me 3 bucks after the promotional code. It was my first time using it but I will definitely be using them again. Are you supposed to tip on top of the fare? I didn't have any cash on me and didn't see a tip option.
You can tip, but I swear using Uber Black they almost argue with me NOT to tip. I still don't get that.
Exactly. You would be better of being serial killer in normal cab. Uber tracks everyone. Heck they even tracked customers when they weren't supposed to. I wouldn't be surprised if uber was a CIA operation to track everyone.
