I have no idea. But have you considered the possibility that these people aren't what they appear to be? It sure seems like this film served as a convenient pretext for those attackers to raid the embassy and kill innocent Americans. Perhaps the US government is investigating whether the film was intentionally made to incite anti-American hatred.

 

A pretext for who? they are Islamist. They behead you if you wear a skirt too short. They don't need to make a fake movie to justify murder to their fellow Islamists.

If you read the Gawker link, it appears that the filmmaker may be a criminal, and may have violated a court order. Perhaps people are being questioned about that. I could be wrong, but I think there are airport watch lists that are different than the more commonly known terrorist no-fly lists.

A bunch of the actors apparently came out and said they were misled about the film and their voices were dubbed over with the anti-Islamic stuff. I have no idea if that's illegal or not, but if so, that might also be a reason for the investigation.

American actors and actresses who appeared in "Innocence of Muslims" issued a joint statement Wednesday saying they were misled about the project and alleged that some of their dialogue was crudely dubbed during post-production.

In the English-language version of the trailer, direct references to Muhammad appear to be the result of post-production changes to the movie. Either actors aren't seen when the name "Muhammad" is spoken in the overdubbed sound, or they appear to be mouthing something else as the name of the prophet is spoken.

"The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer," said the statement, obtained by the Los Angeles Times. "We are 100 percent not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic rewrites of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred."

One of the actresses, Cindy Lee Garcia, told the Gawker.com website that the film was originally titled "Desert Warriors" and said the script did not contain offensive references to Islam. She said the director, who identified himself as Bacile, told her then that he was Egyptian.


At this point, there's simply not enough information to know what is going on, or what the story is behind the movie.

I think the film maker made this film and released it knowing the response he would get right before the election. Plus he had that crazy pastor in FL to help get the word out.

Good point - the stupid little film is not the real cause of the attacks. Carl Herrera keeps trying to distract people by trying to steer the focus to the film. He even originally titled this thread something like "Libyans, Egyptians trolled into attacking embassies", as if this was all some kind of little funny thing and the angry mob somehow had an actual reason for their actions.

 

After waiting for all the information before making a judgement (unlike a certain presidential candidate), we know it was terrorists who murdered those people. There have been arrests already.
