Boehner's FY to the tea party? White House, GOP near two-year budget deal Senior White House officials and congressional leaders are nearing a deal to raise the debt limit and set the federal budget for the next two years, say sources familiar with the talks. The agreement is not yet final, as negotiators still need to settle a dispute over controversial policy riders, but congressional leaders hope to announce something Monday evening, according to a Senate source. The deal would cover the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years. It would also raise the nation's debt ceiling to March 2017, according to a congressional source.
Well that's a good sign. This is how budgets are supposed to be done. A debt ceiling increase should be part of the actual budget. You can thank Newt Gingrich for deciding that debt ceilings have to be voted on separately from budgets. What a stupid idea..
WOW! Sounds like it's a done deal. House Conservatives Say It's Too Late To Stop A Debt Ceiling Deal Outgoing House Speaker John Boehner is working with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders to finalize terms of an extension of federal borrowing authority through March 2017 along with a $112 billion deal to ease military and domestic spending caps for two years, according to House and Senate aides and lawmakers.
Grand RINOBoehner Omnibus of 2015 "The details are still not altogether clear but it seems like John Boehner will do Paul Ryan an immense, immense favor by resolving all the potential budget stand-offs and possible legislative hostage takings through the end of next year. It still seems like there might be some poison pills Republicans are planning to include. But this would basically confirm for the House firebreathers everything they've always said about Boehner, take all their bombs and fireworks away for the next 18 months or so and again, do Paul Ryan an immense, immense favor by taking away the grounds for potential confrontations through 2016."
And very quietly like that, it's done! Senate approves two-year bipartisan budget agreement Congress sent President Obama an ambitious budget and debt measure that averts a catastrophic national default and sets spending priorities for the next two years. The Senate approved it by a 64-35 vote early on Oct. 30.
sigh, please pay attention. Since Obama took the presidency, he has cut our national deficit in half– and it is possible that within the next two years, he could get rid of it entirely. From the CBO An Update to the Budget and Economic Outlook: 2014 to 2024
I can't find a transcript but in Rand Paul's pathetic and short lived attempt at a filibuster, he said the words, "This is an unholy agreement between the left and the right." This is why we can't have nice things.
Wow -- I can't believe what good news this is. Like a momentary blip of adults doing work together. I'll take it!
Boehner's plan to preserve the Senate for the Republicans in 2016 and give them a (better, but still horrible) shot at the Presidency worked pretty much as drawn up. Freedom caucus gets to keep herping and derping about a budget crisis their own party constructed, while not reaping any of the electoral consequences (until next time).
All it takes to finally getting something passed is for the speaker to resign. Guess Paul Ryan should keep this in mind the next time he wants something done.
