The kid had only read about it online and seen videos...i'm guessing almost getting eaten by one changes things. Probably just wanted to get out alive. Traffic...everything was jamming up. Getting back in the truck risks getting stuck inside it with looters around you. Plus, he did look for a back door. Probably assumed things would get ugly quickly, as cops got it under control.

No, remember the high school kid mentioned that it was already showing up online in other states and being suppressed before the principal's kid situation. I like the show a lot so far. I have to admit that I've laughed very hard that the three important "deaths" so far have all been black people. I think it has to be a running joke with the people involved in the show at this point.
The "only so many black people on the show at a time" thing in The Walking Dead is kind of overblown honestly, since about three times as many speaking white character parts are devoured on that show, and there have been multiple black characters on the show at any given time, including I think three right now? But so far in Fear the Walking Dead, almost exclusively black speaking part characters have turned. It's almost like the show runners are purposely trolling the part of fandom who have made the accusations about the first show. I have expect the first herd seen on the show be the entire populations of Compton and Watts.
Did the radio at the beginning of Episode 2 talk about Deflategate? Something about being the best pocket passer in the league?
