If you sort countries by population, it’s especially damning. Not only do we lead in total cases by nearly than 1.3 million, but we also have more deaths per million and cases per million than other countries of similar size. We have tested 11 million more people than the second place country (Russia), but our testing per million lags behind them, and Russia only has 56 deaths per million to our 370. Russia also has four times fewer cases than the U.S. (2,366,086 vs. 592,280). The only country handling the virus worse than the U.S. is Brazil. They have nearly 1.1 million cases but have only tested nearly 2.5 million people.
Here is pence (who must have been skipped over the parts in the Bible about telling lies) with yet another new version of the story about trump and testing... it is now no longer trump "joking and having a light-hearted moment" but instead a "passing observation"...
Hey Tim, how about you do your damn job before Donald speaks to the press and warn him to not make “joking” and insensitive statements like this in public? If he won’t listen, resign your position. They aren’t funny, and he’s only making your job harder. Also, where were you to stop Donald from telling the nation “Today is a great day for George Floyd” because of the push for social justice reform? It’s your job to warn him how insensitive these types of statements are.
“When you do testing to that extent, you’re gonna find more people, you’re gonna find more cases. So I said to my people ‘slow the testing down, please,’” Trump said at the rally. McEnany said Monday afternoon that Trump had not, in fact, ordered a coronavirus testing slowdown and that his comment to the contrary in Tulsa had been made "in jest." “Any suggestion that testing has been curtailed is not rooted in fact,” McEnany said, claiming Trump was trying to expose the media for reporting increases in coronavirus cases without acknowledging an uptick in testing. “It was a comment that he made in jest,” McEnany said. But Trump did not deny asking his staff to slow down testing when questioned during a Monday interview with Scripps’ Joe St. George. “If it did slow down, frankly, I think we’re way ahead of ourselves, if you want to know the truth.” Trump said. “We’ve done too good a job.” While McEnany said Trump was joking, CBS News reported Pence told governors on Monday that Trump’s testing comments at the rally were “a passing observation.”
And despite his admin's efforts to re-spin his speech on Saturday, trump stumbles into the truth today...
