His handling and messaging of covid19 has certainly added to the possible 200k deaths by the time of the election.
He took the credit for having it under control and lied about it...he gets the blame...period. That one word doesn't change anything.
The number of variables involved cannot all be landed at the feet of DT. To do so is nothing more than bias.
Let me ask you this does Trump bare any responsibility for His covid19 handling? Does he bare any responsibility at all? And why do you think that is?
He wasn't echoing the words of his advisor when he said it would just disappear or when he claimed that anyone who wanted a test could have one. He is not echoing advisors when he refuses to wear masks. He is not echoing advisors when he talks about putting disinfectant inside the body. He isn't echoing advisors when he claims 99% of the cases are harmless. He wasn't echoing his advisors when he defunded the pandemic response team and closed their office.
No ONE is directly responsible for any Covid19 death - that would be the virus itself. DT is responsible for the effectiveness of the fed government response to the pandemic. As president, his leadership is important for not just how the government, from fed to state to local, but also how people response to the virus. He has failed on both front - effectiveness of Fed government and being a leader. Example of major failures from fed gov (not comprehensive) - Lack of early involvement in the outbreak when it's just started in China - Early surveillance failure to detect spread to US and community spread - Lack of test, trace and isolation system (we still do not have the ability to test quickly today and without that, there is no trace and isolation) - Lack of prep for PPE Example of poor leadership (not comprehensive) - Implying it's a hoax, downplaying the seriousness of it to saying it will just vanish. There is a significant faction of his followers that believe it's a hoax and do not believe it's serious (ref polls taken). - Foster an environment that enable group of no mask-er. Some of them not only do not mask, they demand no one else wear mask. The political pressure resulted in local and state gov retracting or not issue mask orders. Individual responsibility and government effectiveness were both needed to contain this virus. Gov failed (and has now pretty much given up - "live with it"). Individual were lead astray. The re-opening, as hasty as it was, might have been successful if individuals were lead to be responsible to each other, to take it very serious - instead DT help torpedoed that with his poor leadership. The impact of that might have still be dampened if there was a national strategy of quick and wide area testing, trace and isolation - there is still none. Just look around - to the north, to the other modern nations - pretty much all of them have succeeded in containing the virus. So, is the 132k death caused by the virus - yes, and could it have been reduced - yes, other have done it. We did not. DT and his admin is a very large part of why we did not and why there will be more death as we enter "live with it".
Believe what you want, he's a shitty human being and an even worst president, yet here you are defending him. I'm not wasting any further time on the matter because your mind was made up as soon as you saw this thread.
Indoor dining and drinking is a big vector for the rise in COVID. It is not entirely Trumps or GOP governors’ fault that states allowed indoor dining— California did the same and is also seeing cases rise. Everyone is eager to restart the economy and life as much as possible. However, now that we are seeing cases and hospitalization rose, if leaders STILL refuse to take steps to stamp down the outbreak, then it is entirely fair to blame them.
How much of the blame do you feel trump deserves? I guess we can spread the rest of the blame to his cabinet, admin and advisers if you like. Oh, and the republican members of the Senate deserves at least some of the blame too. You happy now?
Great article fact checking Trump on another of his claims to downplay the severity of Coronavirus. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/05/us/politics/trump-coronavirus-factcheck.html
