yup. however, they hypocrisy cuts both ways..republicans have always for free trade and supply side economics...but now that we have trump they have decided they want bernie sanders-style protectionist trade policies.

The dotard didn't see this coming, nor did he understand it

Harley-Davidson to move some productions out of US
after EU retaliates against the Trump-tax

The company said in a filing Monday that motorcycles bound for European countries will now be produced in overseas factories.

while WI native Pau Rian understands the ramifications of the Trump tax, he has been too spineless to counter the dotard's impetuous action

one of the first things that Trump did, shortly after his inauguration, was to thank Harley Davidson (HOG) for Building America

Trump met a group from HOG after they rolled up to the south lawn of the White House.
He greeted the five bikers warmly, saying, "Made in America, Harley-Davidson."
Trump added that during the campaign, bikers "were with me all the way."
Alas, the ill-conceived Trump tax, forcing HOG to move more productions overseas

Yes, I feel kind of bad for people like those running Harley-Davidson. They thought Trump would actually look after their interest. They didn't realize he isn't capable of doing that, nor does he really care about doing that. But he talked about doing it and they bought it.

A bit more details on the impact

Shares of Harley-Davidson Inc. HOG, -1.01% sank 2.7% in premarket trade Monday, after the motorcycle maker said the European Union tariffs on the company's motorcycles increased to 31% from 6%, and will increase the cost of the average motorcycle to the EU from the U.S. by about $2,200. The company said it won't raise its suggested retail prices or wholesale prices to dealers to cover the costs of the tariffs, because it believes passing on the tariff costs would have an "immediate and lasting detrimental impact" to its business in the region. Harley-Davidson expects the tariffs to cost about $30 million to $45 million for the rest of 2018, and could cost $90 million to $100 million on an annual basis. The company said it plans to shift production of EU-bound motorcycles to international facilities from U.S. facilities to avoid the tariff burden. That plan would involve increased investment and could take at least nine to 18 months to complete. The EU tariffs, effective June 22, were imposed in response to tariffs the U.S. imposed on steel and aluminum imports from the EU.

Here is a non-silver lining.... once they completed those investment and establish those oversea factories, chances are they are not coming back.

Not a Sanders supporter. But I doubt Sanders would go after EU. His beef was with China dumping steel.

People who think Sanders would have handled his trading negotiations the same way Trump did are like people who think a premade sandwich in the refrigerator at a 7-11 is the same thing as a fresh sandwich from a real Italian deli in Brooklyn.

Business are planning on cutting spending this year overall. Recession is coming. That's sad. And a good indicator that cutting taxes during a boom is a bad idea as rising interest rates are the reason for this recession - and Trump's tax cuts accelerated that process.

The Yield curve has nearly inverted - the last 10 times this has happened it has been followed by either a recession 9 times and the one other time a slowdown.

Trade wars and overheating an economy. Will Trump blame that on Obama?

I'm certain I read Harley was moving some manufacturing overseas to avoid tariffs on products made in the US and shipped overseas. The complexity of it seems to elude the stable genius's grasp.

Or Trump could be imposing the first tariffs on interstate commerce. Yep.

bluntly put, but in the nicest way possible, u have no idea what ur talking about. here are some specific eg that contradicts your convenient claim

Facebook had already announced that it is going to spend Billion $ to beef up its privacy protection measure,
to prevent the re-occurrence of the Russian cyber invasion. As did Google, Twitter ,etc.

this verbiage doesn't make sense; it appears to be disjointed cutting and pasting

a good indicator of recession is the inverted yield curve, where the short term interest interest rate is higher than the longer-term yield

    ???

Trade wars lead to recession, a slow down of the economy, the opposite of overheating an economy

Another retaliation against the Trump tax

    China's Premier Li announced that the PRC will be buying many planes from France's Airbus;
    Boeing is screwed

another retaliation move, potentially, is that China will be selling US Treasurys, applying intense inflationary pressure on the US economy

a slowing economy + inflationary pressure lead to stagflation
