Seems to be a pattern of the GOP... whine about deficits when not in charge and blow up deficits when in charge.

Defense lobbying spends a ton of money each year to keep it that way. Add on to that that military spending is the biggest welfare that the government hands out and basically keeps numerous local domestic economies afloat. It's not just the military, it's all the contractors that profit off the military that have no interest in less defense spending.

Hell, the military has repeatedly tried to close bases and are unable to do so because of lobbying efforts and bought off politicians in those regions. When Obama was cutting military spending, the first thing the military brought up was closing bases in the states, and Congress basically shut that down immediately. Instead, we were forced to use less paper, make sure we turned off lights, lose programs, watch things deteriorate, and have less quality of life for the enlisted because of it.

But, politicians can't cut defense spending/close bases because the first thing that will be said (and was yelled at Obama daily by FOX News and conservative media) is that they don't support the troops. That's basically a death knell for them even if what they are doing is trying to streamline infrastructure/reduce deployments that would increase quality of life for the troops. As usual, it's not about the "troops," but about the people that make money off them.

For sure, I get it. A lot of interests in keeping the status quo. Sucks but that's how it is.

There is no future in old age.

There needs to be an age limit restriction on the president, say 65. Old guys don’t get p***y even when they grab at it as the president so they resent the young. They want to **** the world up before they sign out. Cuts to the EPA are telling.

Wish it was different. After the two wars, we were spread thin everywhere. Then they started making manning cuts and it got worse. Once the deployments started tapering off a bit, it got a little better, but then the budget cuts under Obama happened and things got pretty ridiculous. Not blaming Obama, hell, the cuts were needed, but leadership hated it. Generals couldn’t have all the bells and whistles they were used to and that trickled down.

Military is a huge bloated mess from a financial standpoint. Wish those in charge in Congress would get a handle on it, but, again, “got to support the troops (and put money in my own pocket).”

The Trace is reporting that Trump's budget proposal would remove alcohol and cigarettes from the purview of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:

The proposal would transfer regulatory duties relating to alcohol and tobacco from the ATF to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau in the Department of the Treasury. The reorganization would “enable ATF to hone its focus on activities that protect U.S. communities from violent criminals and criminal organizations,” the budget document states.

Millenials have not even had a crack at the presidency. They get a lot of blame for not having any control anywhere in politics. AOC and a few others who were elected into congress recently are the first to finally enter a position in congress with a little power.

The youngest senators are 42 and 45.

Only 2 of the 535 members in the house are millenials. This is reflective of society.
