In Daniels case he was still shooting great in the preseason, but the moment the season started he rarely saw anything other than garbage time. So his 40 or so shots were spread across months and mostly after riding pine for hours. That kind of inactivity and lack of rhythm is going to affect consistency. The thing is he wasn't bricking 3s when it mattered. Quite the opposite actually.
another player thats going to come back in bite us in the ass. further extending the list of players we shouldn't have let go
He is buried at the end of the TWolves bench. Has played 5 games for them, and made 4 3 pointers, all 4 of those coming in the one game. In that game he missed only one shot. Apart from that game, he hasn't made a shot. And he is still one of the worst defenders in the NBA. He won't be biting anyone, anywhere, ever.
The guy is buried on the bench on arguably the worst team in the Western Conference. Meanwhile Brew is playing great basketball for the Rockets. I make that trade every day of the week.
Give the guy time to develop. He has potential, nobody can deny that. I think he's going to turn out being a great player once a team actually develops him.
That score though... Pretty dark days when the TWolves announcers say, "hey, looks like we've found somebody!"
FWIW, McHale said on 790 yesterday that Canaan came back too soon from his injury and hadn't been looking good in practice.
Brewer just brings everything better than Daniels. That extra height, if he is a truly 6'9 but I think he's closer to 6'7 which is still tall for a perimeter player with so much length. I used to have my eye on Shaun Livingston and drooled about the Rox acquiring him but we have Corey Brewer who is even younger but has those chicken leg quickness with handles.
They aren't really comparable. Daniels an underdeveloped SG was looking for minutes behind Harden/Terry. Brewer is a SF hybrid perfect to back-up or pairing with Ariza. Hence, Brewer has taken Papa's spot in the rotation and why trade-wise it made perfect sense for the Rockets. The thing about Daniels I don't think people really understand is why his shooting got him to the NBA. There are tons of ~40% 3pt shooters in the league and most can play better defense than him too. However, not many of them would be 40% 3pt shooters taking as many 3PA/min as Daniels does and that's the difference. Then we are talking about Stephen Curry and Gerald Green and not many others.
Isaiah Canaan has hit 6 three pointers in a game this season (which is more than Daniels did). The difference is that Canaan did it in 'normal' playing time, not in garbage time. And Canaan did it while playing defence. AND Canaan has had more than one 20 point performance this season. AND Canaan shot bulk 3s in the DLeague, and at college, but hit better peak percentages than Daniels. AND Canaan (well, the list could go on endlessly)
You are surely joking aren't you? Brady Heslip is everything you think Troy Daniels is (ie, a volume 3 point shooter who hits at over 40%). He is hitting 49% this season on 13.8 attempts per game in the DLeague. Troy Daniels was just shy of the 40% mark almost everywhere he played. Heslip was the first name that came to mind, but I'm sure there are more 6'4 or under SGs in the DLeague who are connecting on just under 40% of their heaves, and heaving a lot of shots up.....
Agreed , I was at the rockets/kings game and nobody around me knew who he was when he was lighting it up. I was surprised
Troy Daniels sighting. Meaningful minutes at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th to lead a comeback. 11 points in 9 minutes so far. 3-4 from three.
