Well, it's not the experimental groundbreaking procedure people were hoping for, nevertheless, best of luck to Roy.

This reported by Blazer Freeman A.K.A Joe Freeman A.K.A Their bizarro-world version of Jason Friedman. ;)

so sad.. he may be able to come back but it looks like his career might head down the Penny Hardaway path. Or if he is fortunate he might be able to follow in the footsteps of Grant Hill and still be a very good productive player.

3 weeks to return? I just hope he doesn't have to experience knee pain every step for the rest of his life.

I feel bad for the guy. At the end of the day, walking pain-free for the rest of his life should be the ultimate goal.

Any insight into how this surgery could help his knees?

Because they all workout like this, it makes my knees cringe just thinking about it.

Maybe it's a good thing Van Gundy didn't tank that Denver game, after all. The Karma from that tank job would have been a b****.

3-6 weeks......I'm no doctor but that doesn't sound like a permanent "fix" to me.

That sounds like a patch job, not a repair.

I have no clue what they could "patch" with that little of a recovery period. Absolutely strange that they aren't performing some sort of major procedure on him and they are doing this instead.

The only thing I see wrong with that is he leads the jump using his toes (which would mean he is unable to rise using his prime mover - glutes - in his jumps). The box actually will allow for him to absorb less impact than a jump 40 inches in the air and landing 40 inches down.

Other than that, he is landing on the box nearly perfect and he is getting of the box loading his weight on his upper body to reduce the impact on his knees/ankles/hip complex.

The 60 pounds (each?) on a thirty something box was a little off, too.

The problem is that there is no real repair for what he has. He has no more meniscus in his knees, which means he has nothing preventing excess strain and stress between the bones in his knees. Essentially, it is a super accelerated version of arthritis, and that is why he having so much pain right now.

All an arthroscopic surgery can do is remove scar tissue or bone fragments that may be causing his pain to help relieve it. The best possible cures for his condition would be a super version of microfracture surgery or a menicus transplant surgery. But more than likely, neither of these procedures would allow him to return to basketball at his previous level, that is if he could return to the NBA at all.

This is not like Grant Hill's injuries. This is will never heal on its own, it will only progress and get worse.
