Gasol doesn't give us a long-term solution and his play severely regressed this year. I think we can cash Lowry in for something of value that also provides us a long-term solution at one of our starting positions. Either a high draft pick, a young player with a lot of upside, or a current all-star.

I'm tired of all the BS for Gasol. He just isn't the answer. If we're gonna trade Lowry it has to be for a high draft pick not for 30+ year old guy on a 20+ million dollar contract. If they'd take martin+scola+pat/bud/other filler for Pau, it'd be ok but not Lowry, our biggest trade piece right now.

Good point but offense isn't the only issue. Scola is horrible on the defensive end. Gasol is a legitimate defensive presence. A Gasol/Camby rotation at center instantly makes Martin and any other wings/guards we send out much better defenders. Martin becomes more valuable... which I like.

OK let me put out an idea that I have been speculating about for the last couple of weeks. I would like your opinion.

Rockets trade Lowry, Scola and the protected Dallas first round pick for Gasol.

Rockets trade PPat, Morris, LLull and the 14th and 16 picks to Atlanta for Josh Smith.

    Roster:

    Gasol/Camby
    Smith/Motiejunas
    Parsons/Bud
    Martin/Lee
    Dragic/???

How far could that roster go?

Does anyone else feel that with Motiejunas coming over next year, Scola has value beyond his on-court production?

D-Mo has said that Scola was his favorite player growing up. I think he'd rather be mentored by Scola than Gasol. I think it helps chemistry and Scola is not the trash some of you are making him out to be.

Whenever I picture Gasol being traded here, I imagine Quitten 2.0.

Although, it would be fun to hear the nicknames we come up with for him. I was especially fond of "Stacy McLady," but I know we can outdo ourselves.

Give me a break please. Gasol has 2 rings he and Kobe earned. And he is still a top 4 center in this league. See Magic's appraisal.

Thank you... Why would the Rockets want to give the Lakers a starting pg and a starting pf and a legit guy coming off the bench, which they desperately need? All this to get Gasol who will promptly go into final year in Memphis mode on us, which means he'll sulk and play disinterested bball.

    Gasol is overrated.

    Gasol is 31.

    Gasol disappears in the playoffs.

The guy essentially quit in the playoffs last year against Dallas because his girlfriend broke up with him.

    No Thanks.

He won his last ring before he was on the wrong side of 30, and we wouldn't be bringing him here to pair up with Kobe, or even the next Kobe, or even a broke man's Kobe.

What are you expecting from him?

    No.

You keep giving up too much in your trades. Josh Smith isn't worth all that.

Not sure if this is do-able but Scola, Martin and Budinger (or filler) for Gasol. Then package Gasol, Lowry & Patterson for Howard and Turkoglu. Dragic should resign if Houston parts with Lowry. Houston can then bring Llull and Motiejunas over. Draft Rivers and Zeller and the team could look like this

    PG-Dragic/Rivers
    SG-Lee/Llull
    SF-Parsons/Turkoglu/Morris
    PF-Motiejunas/G.Smith
    C-Howard/Camby/Zeller

And Kobe is on the worst contract in the NBA and has degenerated into a coaches worst nightmare - black hole on offense and basically a team killer. You all are blaming the Lakers failures on the wrong person - it is all on Kobe's head,

And what do I expect from him - 18/11/2/2. Below his career average but he still is a presence in the the paint and can alter /block shots effectively.

So I have to ask - can any of you support your arguments beyond the vague statement he disappeared in the playoffs the last 2 years? I do hope you give it a go, but I believe it is beyond your capacities. Prove me wrong! Amaze me with your brilliant insight and analytics!

I can accept that observation. And it certainly could be correct. If you were Morey what would you offer? Smith was an EC all star, 4th among PF's for the defensive POY, and a lock down defender.
