You beat me to it. Wolf is not going to get middle of the rotation money. He is a back of the rotation pitcher.

Are you telling me that Brian Moehler is an $8M a year guy too?

What we should of done was trade Pence last season for Johan Santana (Mets gave up nothing for him) and kept Scott and Patton.

No way do you get Peavy for Pence!!! But, I would if I were the GM of the Astros. "It's not even fair" - just my take.

If San Diego does that I'm sure they might be pulling a Colorado with us and sending us damaged goods. I'd be so skeptical of that deal!!!

Pitching is always at a premium in Baseball.

Right now the Astros best shot at improving the pitching is free agency because they don't have much to trade to improve.

in a heartbeat, but I think if they're willing to spend that kind of cash, they'd just re-sign peavy..?

Nobody said Peavy for Pence straight up.

but that the discussions for Peavy begin with Pence. Nobody is in dreamland.

There are probably 29 teams that would have more to offer than the Astros.

I like Pence but I'd do it. I don't think he has a huge ceiling. It's going to be hard for him to suddenly get better plate discipline at age 25 or whatever.

He's too undisciplined as a hitter to be anything more than 20-25 HR and 80-90 RBI. Good, but not untouchable.

The Padres would laugh at Pence for Peavy, and I can't understand why any Astros fan would say they wouldn't do that deal.

Peavy already re-signed, he signed an extension last year that starts in 2010. The Padres just realize they really suck and probably have to start rebuilding immediately because they won't be attracting free agents. I'm surprised they'd shop him already because Peavy is still a couple years under 30 and signed long term, you'd think they'd hold onto him a little longer.

Carlos Lee has a no-trade clause btw.

Nobody is saying Pence for Peavy straight up, but that's where we'd have to start.
