It is comical for sports stars to promote humanitarian "causes" while decking out in blings to look good for the crowd. It is hard to take their intentions seriously, even if the causes are serious. (Sans a few geniune stars like Mutombo or Yao)
Does he needs those ugly sunglasses?? Hope he did not borrow those from his old pal Juwon . His dressing for charity occasion is mismatch, his dressing and sunglasses are fit for a gang meeting.
Tracy McGrady is actually doing something tangible and positive about a serious situation that does not have a high profile in America and people have the gall the b**** about him for his audience, or attire?! We should be so lucky to have people like him on the team we support. I think many of the comments in this thread show how petty and stupid people are becoming about McGrady. I also want to point out that probably not a single person who has questioned McGrady's integrity as an athlete and and as a person in the last few weeks has *ever* had to exhibit any courage, or fortitude commensurate to the hysterical demands you make on others. It's like you dorks think that by living your lives vicariously through strangers who play a children's game it gives you some kind of superior insight into the human condition. Knee-jerk (and jerk-off) fans is part of the game, but the last two years has brought so many twerps into the fold that it makes reading this forum difficult.
What difference does it make as to what type of lifestyle he lives? Just because you take up a cause does not mean you have to rip the clothes off your back in order to donate every cent. TMac makes 25million a year (including endorsements) and i'm sure he has adequate funds to donate to the cause. Hes taking the more important step of educating others about the atrocities going on in Darfur so that those of the future can take steps to stop or prevent future problems. To present another example.... Bill and Melinda Gates have single handedly changed health care in the 3rd world with their vaccination program. They have donated billions of dollars to this worthwhile cause. They live a very very lavish lifestyle. I don't think you can accuse him of not caring. You give what you can. Thats the bottom line.
easy... they are just for fun,it's not a big deal anyway. but i think they should focus on tmac's good will instead of his sunglasses...
Wow, only T-Mac can get bashed for doing something positive. This board is getting ridiculous. Clutchfans is not what is use to be.
No one is bashing him. Just some personal opinion on his decision on his attire for a very good course. The event is a very respectable and good and nobody dispute but one has to feel a little mismatch for his sunglasses (no so much for the jacket though). Imagine this, in an on-going funeral for a reputable and respectable, well known person or player and this guy who is supposed to idolised or worship and respect him came ijnto the funeral wearing bright red. That's an obvious mismatch and will raise some opinions.
Umm I don't think these comments below are about his attire. There were maybe 2 or 3 comments about his attire/sunglasses. People are searching for ways to bash T-Mac at any chance they get. T-Mac could come up with the cure for cancer and all yall would talk about is, "How selfish, he's taking away all the jobs dedicated to find a cure for cancer. What a horrible person!!!"
Or maybe people are going to keep searching for ways to defend T-Mac despite the mountain of ambiguity he displays with his actions and words.
Maybe people could save the bashing of T-Mac for one of the dozens of threads here about his shortcomings as a player. Meanwhile, here is a story about T-Mac giving time and money for an important and overlooked cause, and people act like he was spotted in a nightclub or something (no offense, Bonzi). Are you implying it would be preferable for T-Mac to be less ambiguous and not support the Darfur cause at all? It's not like T-Mac has jumped on some huge bandwagon here. Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are not out raising awareness or funds for this cause as far as I know. Good for T-Mac for using his time and money for something useful in the world.
Well this thread is about his visit to Auburndale High School. Must we turn ever single T-Mac thread into debate about his toughness, attitude, desire, passion, willings to play injured, his back, loyalty to the team, what he had for dinner or his grades in high school? Why not stick to the other "T-Mac is Lazy" threads instead of cluttering this one? It wouldn't hurt to actually speak on the topic at hand. Intelligent comments are good too you know.
Here's other links talking about the trip. http://www.theledger.com/article/20080103/SPORTSBREAKING/546795397 http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/01/04/tracy-mcgrady-still-cares-about-darfur/ http://www.theledger.com/article/20080103/NEWS/801030562/1345/SPORTS04 Someone asked why he went to talk to the kids, he is making Auburndale the sister school to the one he builds in Chad. That's why he showed them part of the video documentary that they are making about his trip.
Well, you're doing exactly what you don't want to happen. You're certainly not talking about the topic at hand in this thread. We've drifted off in to this. Maybe THIS conversation should stick to the "why does McGrady get blamed for everything?" thread. Just playing devil's advocate...
http://www.theledger.com/article/20080104/NEWS/801040432/1002/SPORTS last link I swear!! Here's the text of this one (because I am trying to put this thread back on topic )
Regardless of what hes done or hasn't done on the court, McGrady is a great person. He has been through so much. I believe he had something like 8 close friends and family deaths in his first 9 years in the NBA. He tougher than what most people think and definitely more tough than some posters on here. T-Mac has gone through more pain already than some of us will in a lifetime. At the end of the day, it is just a basketball game. Its always good to see our players doing something positive for others than doesn't always have to involve basketball.
