T-Mac is a first ballot hall of famer.

Lol @ the salt in this thread. No matter how many tears you shed, he's still a first ballot hall of famer.

    EXCUSE AFTER EXCUSE.

04-05 team won 51 gms. They won the first TWO gms against Dallas in the playoffs (in Dallas). In gm 7 (McGrady was 10 of 26 in a 76-116 blowout loss).

06-07 team won 52 gms. Rockets had home court against Utah. McGrady had Yao (two HOF players to none for Utah). Rockets lose in 7 gms (gm 7 in Houston).

07-08 team won 55 gms. Rockets had home court advantage again and lose in 6 gm series.

2008 isn't fair b/c we lost Yao late in the season. However, I agree that we had enough talent to beat the Jazz in 2007.

Conveniently leaving out the scoring numbers of his teammates, I see. Regular season winning numbers don't mean jack when your teammates can't hit anything in the playoffs.
But I see that fans like you don't understand basketball and think the team with the best player has to win.

Really don't get why people just won't admit that these rosters were terrible, you weren't the responsible GM and it doesn't hurt you to admit that the personnel was terrible.

All this denial just to trash McGrady, it's sad.

You are trashing his teams and elevating him to a superstar who has a proven winning playoff record.

He's a hall of famer for sure, you don't make that much money and go to all star games if you are not good and famous.

There would be no debate if he even won 1 playoff series as a starter, but he never did so therefore it's not doubt that he was not a good leader, it's fact. l

Teams that win 50+ in the playoffs are not trash teams especially if they get home court advantage, that means they are a high seeded team.

Some people will always make excuses for failure.

They can bring me in the discussion all they want, I won't deny McGrady is a hall of famer because he's a hall of famer.
But I will definitely deny that he was great leader of playoff teams because that never happened, while other teams have won playoff series after he left.

That series was absolute heroics by TMac. That Detroit team was stacked, and won the NBA title the following year. They were the best defensive team in the league and they couldn't stop a TMac. They had no business going 7 games with that team. It was the shocker of the first round.

TMac absolutely had a shitty team that year.

    Still
There's no logic behind this, try to back it up.

Still haven't answered my question and talk gibberish instead.
Again, name the rosters and box scores from those defeats and show how McGrady was the main factor in those losses.

You guys are the prime example of event fans that don't understand the sport one bit. “He is teh star and they have no star, automatic win.“. “Only three of his teammates scored, but that means he just...ehhh..didn't spark the fire in them...eh.“. Completely useless to debate basketball with someone like that.

Nah man, a team starting Giricek, Vaughn, DeClercq and Gooden is championship material. And T-Mac averaging 30+ ppg and one of the highest Playoff PERs of all time during that series was so embarassing, the team would've went 4:0 without him.

    The logic is results
    No playoff series victories ever

Look, you can go back and play video games and make that happen, but in real life, Tmac as a starter never led any team to a playoff series victory

And yes he's a hall of famer, that shows that he was an all star player with lots of talent, his salary and popularity validate that
he's not some marginal player who people who don't care about basketball prop up like Lin, he's a true talent, but talent doesn't win championships, it's leadership and talent

That's true and he made the NBA Finals, won the olympics, and led his team to many playoff series victories

Still waiting for a real answer, all you've provided so far are a bunch of posts with no content and your typical nonsense.
It's extremely simple: Post the rosters of the teams and then tell us how the Rockets &Orlando rosters were more talented than their opponents.

It's super easy to do, won't reply again if you can't do this task.

Will even do some of it for you:
Starters: Giricek, Vaughn, DeClerkc, Gooden, McGrady. Bench: Armstrong, Garrity, Whitney, Kemp, Burke, Hunter, Sasser.

Pistons: Wallace, Billups, Hamilton, Curry, Robinson. Bench: Prince, Barry, Okur, Williamson, Atkins.

McGrady: 30+ PPG and One of the highest PER of all time.

Stop posting empty, useless nonsense and prove your point, given the rosters I've just provided.

Won't reply if you can't properly do it.

The question isn't whether McGrady is a HOFer, I don't think anybody is disputing this, and again congrats to him. It's one hell of an accomplishment!! That said that's where the discussion hits the fork in the road.

Great players are about winning...especially in the playoffs. Everyone gets over a long career (in McGrady's case 13 yrs with the Tor/Orl/Hou stints) that there's going to be numerous playoff disappointments. We're not talking good players anymore but a guy who just got voted to the HOF. Every HOFer has the individual awards and stats. What they also have are rings, and if not rings they have appearances in the finals, or the conference finals (or at least the 2nd rd). Not getting out of the first round? Ever? Over THIRTEEN seasons?

You can complain about the rosters (and we know McGrady apologists are quick to do this), but these "shitty" rosters were good enough to win 50+ games a few yrs (good enough for home court in a few series). You'd think at least ONE season (not every yr but just ONE series) you'd close the deal.

Like that "shitty" roster somehow by a miracle being good enough to be up 3-1 (against the Pistons), or winning the first two gms of the series against Dallas only to lose it in 7 (and in the deciding gm you went 10 of 26 from the field), or losing two series to Utah when you had the home court.

So yes McGrady is now a HOFer. He'll be known for such things as 13 pts in whatever, or being a part of a 22 gm win streak, a gifted athlete, great scorer, etc etc, but NEVER....EVER will he be known about winning in the playoffs but McGrady apologists will continue to spew that every one of those rosters (playoff rosters mind you and again with home court advantage at times and in one series his team had another HOFer against a team with ZERO HOFers) were "shitty".

Yes, but he continuously lost to other great leaders who were greater talents ... Dream and Jordan...so the statement still holds true for Stockton.

McGrady never led any team to a playoff victory

    He played with

    VINCE CARTER
    YAO MING
    SHANE BATTIER
    ETC

Players who have advanced without him.

What you never understood and any of the people who joined here because of Tmac is this

We got TMAC to help the ROCKETS WIN PLAYOFF SERIES
Not TMAC joined the ROCKETS so the ROCKETS CAN HELP HIM ACHIEVE MORE GLORY THAN HIS PEERS

    Shark,

The McGrady fans are twisting this. They are saying because he's a hall of famer, that his failures as a Rocket MAX SALARY PLAYER were not his fault and that the organization should have bend over backwards for him .

This phenomenon that we see here was the early iteration of the "PLAYER ONLY FAN"
this was never the case when we were fans in the 90s because it was all about Houston and team.

Thus they believe , because he had talent, he was the main reason for the success, but when there is failure, it's never his fault, his teams were 'shitty'.

I hear you on this. don't lose hope, you have a TEAM ONLY FAN in me and my brothers the Clutchfans.

Still won't actually reply, sad. Must be tough to not be able to back up claims that someone's entire forum persona is based on, even when directly asked to.
