Depends... if he has little control, then he will need more than one pitch and a lot of insight into opposing batters. If he has a fair amount of control, but no other pitches or weak ball movement, then he needs to pitch low and paint the corners. He will probably start off as a pitcher for hitting practice first.

Rocket works with former Rocket McGrady on pitching

The Katy Rocket has been working with a former Rocket on the art of pitching, but it’s unclear if Tracy McGrady is ready to take the mound for the Sugar Land Skeeters.

Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, who is a special assistant with the Astros, has worked with McGrady on his pitching.

Former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy told a television audience on Friday night that his “sources” tell him McGrady is throwing 90-mph and is likely to pitch for an independent team.

Clemens has strong ties to the Sugar Land Skeeters, and he’ll play an active part in promoting the independent Atlantic League All-Star Game in Sugar Land this summer. Clemens’ oldest son Koby is likely to start the season with the Skeeters, Clemens told the Chronicle last week.

It’s probably too early, however, to expect McGrady to throw heat for the Skeeters.

“He’s not there yet,” Clemens said via text when asked if McGrady had a chance to pitch for the Skeeters. “(He) needs more time and needs to react to live hitters and balls coming back (toward) him.”

SUGAR LAND, TX – Former Houston Rocket and NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady confirmed today his intention to pursue a pitching career with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Below is a statement from the Skeeters club:

“Trady McGrady is one of the most elite athletes of this era and we appreciate his interest in pursuing a life-long dream with the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Atlantic League. While the Atlantic League is considered the highest level of baseball outside of Major League Baseball, McGrady has demonstrated skill, determination and diligence during his training program at Constellation Field. We look forward to monitoring his progress.”

The way the Astros are going, they can really use a "big name."

Take in to account he is 6'8, the release point is significant.

Downhill ball and he is long. He will be effective if he can spot his pitches.

Word is @Real_T_Mac wants to pitch relief in his new career. Don't know if he'll ever close like he did vs. San Antonio ... but a COOL story

Baseball would be good for tmac.
He's really familiar with shut outs. Lots of them. With every team. Even in china .

Why do i have a hunch this is going to end like his career, in disappointment? At least in my opinion. I hope not though, and wish him the best. One hell of a talent. Got to admire a man going after his dreams. Good luck to him.

I'd go to some games to see him.

Curious to see how this pans out.

The company I work for has a box to the skeeters, it'd be awesome if he played. They do a great job and the games are fun.

Yup! All comes down to his control and ball movement though and how good he can get with that.
