I have no explanation how this KID ran what he did while doing what he did at the end of the race. This is at the U20 world championships. @DreamShook, this is your kind of track athlete.
Kid needs to set some records first with the big boys first before getting all cocky. He has a ton of potential right now but he still needs to continue growing that talent past the U20 stage.
age discrimination. T&F is entertainment too, never too early to start building your brand ... just don't go the Sha'Carri Richardson route.
I sent this vid to somebody yesterday because I couldn't stop laughing. They were like "that's a skit, right?" LOL. She basically was sent to compete by the Somaii government because of the corruption in the government. She's family with government officials or something. Looked like somebody just strolled out onto the track with some world class athletes and said "wth... lemme try this".
Every 4 years for about a week we care about track and field, that's enough. See also: swimming, diving, gymnastics, skiing, skating, etc...
i love watching track to death - whenever there's a big meet I'll watch - despite always being slow as hell jogger and nothing more. The thing i like about it is that it's the only major sport i know of where -> you can just go out and do it! You don't need any equipment other than a pair of shoes. You don't need to arrange a meet with your friends. You want to run? You go out there and run - its free! You can pretend like you're good when you're out there no matter your age. As long as you can run, you can try to run faster. It's great.
ShaCarri Richardson just shocks the world & takes out the Jamaicans from lane 8. Folks, this is real.
I watched her in the semis and thought for sure she'd definitely be a contender, but I didn't think she was going to beat the top 3 in the world. Then you're gonna tell me she's going to reel the Jamaicans in from behind at the end? No freakin' way. That was impressive. The race reminded me of the men's 100m finals with Noah Lyles casually shifting into another gear and winning that. This and Lyles' performance kind of makes up for Kerley flubbing his run in the 100.
I think track and field will always be a "whatever" sport in the US. At least it's always been that way until maybe the Olympics. I used to watch the sprints and relays religiously whenever they were on tv and now whenever I can find videos online, but while I still watch them, all the past steroid abuse by damn-near everybody year after year got to be frustrating. I wasn't sure if I was watching for the fastest person or the best doping program. Erriyon Knighton looks like a great kid to cheer for as long as he keeps clean, so I keep watching. He's an incredible runner and athletes like that keep me watching the sport. Now watch him get busted. lol.
