You are being kind. Rudy Gay was actually a negative because he took way too many shots and played a role he wasn't suited for. This season with the Grizzlies, he took over 16 shots per game despite shooting 41% from the field (31% from long range). If he played within his capabilities, things would have been different. It isn't just a matter of him having more talent than Prince at a higher price. Getting ride of Rudy Gay was addition by subtraction. Again, the Grizzlies went 15-3 after he was traded. Does that sound like a team that missed him? Any team that has Rudy Gay leading in FGAs is doomed to fail. There is a reason the Grizzlies had the most success without him.
