They weren't anyway . . .so they have a better chance with Kawhi than with DeRozan

They probably already thinking of rebuilding after the coming year anyway
because I think the east is conceding to the Celtics and Philly for the next 5 years

So they try one last HURRAH . . . .

Spurs get quality in return . . . . something to build with in a sense
Demar signed til 2021 (2020 with a player option i beleive)

Kawhi sent to Siberia for a year

Assuming health, effort and coaching is all ok, the raptors should be a great team. Could easily go the finals, may be better than us.

And then next year it’s all over

Except - as you noted - Lakers thought the same thing with PG13.
Also, wouldn't they acquire his Bird rights and can give him more $$$$? (Not a cap guy by any means)
Moreover, pretty sure a certain King would be pushing hard for this so they can have a playoff caliber team in time for playoffs.
That being said, my point would be that Toronto could flip him (Lakers or Clippers) if they get a bad vibe before the trade deadline. (Clippers offer of Harris, young player, & 1st could move the needle at that point.)

    nah, Boston would’ve handled them

I like Philly better than them moving forward as well

they were just a good regular season team that faded in the playoffs...you’re ceiling will always be limited with Lowry and Derozan as your best players...that movie needed to end

Wow, the Spurs don’t even get Anunoby? Masai has done it again.

That is a great trade for Toronto. U swap Derozan for Kawhi, give up Poeltl (who cares), and a protected 2019 pick? If Kawhi leaves, then u didn’t really give up anything of importance unless you think so highly of Derozan which I don’t. He’s good, but is very flawed.

So much for Players having final control in the league. Glad to see Pop not cuck to the player

Toronto wins either way. They just got $30 mil in expiring contracts and with the rise of Boston and Phili winning the east is not a given.

Demar was just not worth his contract on THAT team.

Why would the Spurs do this? Derozan isn't that good, he puts up 23 ppg on poor % and isn't going to push you up and over. He's 29 years old. Pop isn't going to be able to beat the Warriors or Rockets or Lakers in the future. He should have gone with prospects and retired if he didn't want to coach them.

Weird deal for both sides. I have a feeling Leonard is washed up now. Don't care if he signs or not.

Why didn't the spurs go after a 2020 pick when Kawhi could leave?

If that happens, the Raptors better have Robert Horry on speeddial to calm DeRozan down.

Imo bad trade for both teams like some analysts predicted.
