I need a refresher. Just like with CFB, I forget whats going on. So does OU/UT have an guards? I think I remember OU playing a true freshman PG that looked good right? Texas, why are they ranked so high? The bigs? Baylor could come out of the Big 12 I would think. What is UCLA working with? Gonzaga? Is Edgar Sosa starting? I am lost.
they are bringing back collison, shipp from last year's starting five. Aboya and Keefe are still there as their big guys off the bench and Roll will back this year after having been out all last year. Add in they have the best freshman class coming in (5 top 50 recruits including a top 3 recruit in Jrue Holiday) they have a lot of good mix of experience and youth. How soon the young kids will learn howland's defensive system though is still up in the air.
Texas made it to the Elite 8 last year and finished the season ranked #5. The team lost 3 players: Augustin, JD Lewis, and Ian Mooney. Mooney and Lewis combined to average 1.4 ppg last year. The loss of Augustin is a big one -- had he returned, this team is quite possibly ranked #1 overall. As for guards, AJ Abrams was our #2 scorer behind DJ last year and he's back. Justin Mason (Royal Ivey reincarnate) made huge leaps forward last year and will probably play a bit more point -- I think the Longhorns were actually at their best last year when Mason was running the offense and Augustin was off the ball. The team isn't replacing DJ with freshmen talent -- the top recruit, J'Covan Brown, isn't joining the team, leaving only Varez Ward, who's not really an impact prospect. I was a bit worried about our recruiting for a minute, and then we recruit 4 5*s over the next two years and are in the running for a few more. However, a lot of people are really high on Dogus Balbay -- a point guard from Turkey who was with the team last year, but missed the season due to a knee injury. He's supposed to be really good. Additionally, a guy who played a good bit 2 years ago, Matt Hill, missed all of last year due to an injury and will be back. Throw in a likely mid-late first round pick in Damion James (who will also get better), a probable 2nd rounder in Atchley, and some improvements from guys like Dexter Pittman, Gary Johnson, and Wangmene, and this is an interesting Texas team. Not the same star power as Augustin/Durant but a ton of quality depth up front, to go along with a trio of talented guards. There are 10 guys on this team who could be in the rotation. Interestingly, I didn't count Harrison Smith, who was a 4* the same year as Durant and has yet to make any impact. [Side note: How great was the rest of that recruiting class? 2 lotto picks in Durant and Augustin, a likely first rounder in James, 2 more potential 2nd rounders in Pittman and Mason, and a solid Matt Hill]
More people do what Nikestrad did... I want hear the assessment of your team. Short blurbs from genuine fans are way more insightful than reading some magazine trying to slam 200 teams down my throat at once. I'd do the gaggies but all I know is Turge is very high on true freshman Dash Harris. The other big recruit, Davis Loubeau is a project and not looking too great. I expect Davis to have another great year and probably come off as one of the most fan-favorite Aggie basketball players of all time.
