This is a translation from french Newspaper "L'Equipe"

    Parker votes for Paul

    Best PG at penetration
    Devin Harris and Me
"Devin Harris comes just after me. He must have watched some videos on me. I
know that Avery Johnson made him watch me a a lot when he was in Dallas.
This year, he doesn't stop penetrating. Just like me in 2006, when I was an
NBA first in points in the paint."

    Best PG at shooting
    Steve Nash
"It's a no contest. He shoots FTs at 90%, 50% 3pt FG in his good years and
50% FG. Derek Fisher is also very strong at 3pts. But the best catch and
shoot is Mike Bibby. He's been model for me in that category."

    The nicest PG
    Chris Paul
"I really get along with him. But there are also Deron Williams and Steve
Nash. We have dinner together and see each other outside the court. But I
meet a lot more the PGs from Western conference."

The hardest PG to play against
    Andre Miller
"I dont know why but he is a "pain in the ass". Everytime he plays against
me, he is hot. Just like me when Iwas playing gary Payton at the begenning
of my career. Miller is a guy we don't talk a lot but he goes wild when he
plays against me.. Maybe he is motivated because i'm an all-star. There are
also Chauncey Billups, Baron Davis and Jason Kidd. They post-up a lot. They
are hard to stop because they go inside a lot."

    The best rookie PG
    Derrick Rose
"But watch DJ Augustin, he's starting to gain confidence."

    The best dribbler
    Allen Iverson
"No Contest. He's out of range that's all. He also as the best first step
and on 1vs1. He has a very special game."

    The most underrated PG
    Devin Harris
"He was already very good in Dallas but he couldn't let himself go because
of Nowitzki and Howard. We can see how strong he is this year. The other one
is Miller, an old school PG, but he is good every year, solid."

    The most overrated PG
    Rajon Rondo
"It used to be Jason Williams. People used to love him because he was making
fancy assists and they were forgetting the passes in the stands. Nowadays
it's more difficult. Maybe Rajon Rondo. He is a bit overrated.Playing with
Pierce and Garnett helps a lot and people tend to forget that."

    The best defender
"I would say Chris Paul. He defends well, has good hands, he anticipates
well. Chris Paul and Jason Kidd. They both have a high sense of anticipation
. They always have a hand in there that can steal the ball. Then Chauncey
Billups who is really strong. But I consider myself a top 5."

    The best passer
"Chris Paul and Deron Williams. No. Chris Paul and Steve Nash. You have to
have the right players next to you. Chris Paul has them. Tyson Chandler for
high passes and David West who is a pure PF and a hell of a shooter. But
Paul has the vision on court."

    Conclusion
"Chris Paul is the most skilled. But it's more complicated. It depends on
the team you play on. If I was playin in New Orleans or Phoenix, I would
have more responsabilities, more assists. My Top 5 is : Chris Paul, Myself,
Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Chauncey Billups. The best PGs are in the
Western Conference. Allen Ivers is now in the east but we also have Baron
Davis, and when he is healthy, he can be a "pain in the ass" to play against
    ."

    TP's Top 5
    1 Chris Paul
    2 Tony Parker
    3 Deron Williams
    4 Steve Nash
    5 Chauncey Billups

    seriously.

Him bad-mouthing Jason Williams is ridiculous. The guy toned down the fancy passes and got his turnovers WAY down once he went to Memphis. And that was a LONG time ago...Tony must be remembering from the Sacto days, which may have been back when TP watched the NBA on TV..

Huh? Jason Williams probably does go down as the most overrated PG in the past decade.

Seriously, he exploded on the scene because of his two years in Sacramento playing playground ball and 99% of his fame comes from that. Yes, he did tone it down, but at the same time he never sniffed All-Star level play.

His single best year, he averaged 15 and 8, and most years it was more around 12 and 7. He was an absurd shot flinger, with crappy shooting percentages to match. Shooting only 30% from downtown? May as well launch at least 5 of them a game to be sure you hit one! Jack a few up before the 4-second clock runs down!

PGs are rarely good at that end, but he was garbage on defense.

He never made players around him better. He couldn't for the life of him execute a halfcourt offense.

Nice guy to have on a fastbreak team, but he was worthless when games mattered.

    Evan

    Big slap to Rajon Rondo.

    Disrespect? Beef?

And how come AI is point guard, I remember seeing him playing a shooting guard position.

And no mention of Rafer Alston in best dribbling playmaker?
If something that Rafer can do is that's dribbling and handling the ball.

Very interesting since you rarely see NBA players do anything like this while still active. I was a bit surprised to hear Andre Miller is his 'toughest to defend' -- figured it would be AI, Paul or somebody small & quick. I can't say I really disagree with anything he said. Plus, it's good to know NBA players think Rondo is overrated too.

I disagree.. once he got to Memphis, and to a lesser degree in Miami (moreso the first year or so there), I thought he contributed well to the half-court offense.

No, I certainly don't think he ever sniffed All Star level. But I don't think he was being rated that highly. He wasn't voted in by the fans.. people liked his highlights in Sacramento, but that was the extent of it.

Going to take a look at the stats..

PER for a quick measure.. (15 being the average NBA player I believe)
    SAC: 12.8, 11.6, 12.8
    MEM: 15.1, 17.1, 16.9, 15.4
    MIA: 15.0, 15.0, 12.7

To me that supports my statement that he toned it down and became a solid player in MEM and early on in MIA before succumbing to the knee problems and all. His 3pt %age climbed from the 29-31% range in Sacto to an average around 34% the last 6 years of his career. (I am conveniently leaving out his first year in Memphis when he shot 30% from 3.. but only to illustrate that after that, it never dipped down that low again)

It looks like his 1st season in Memphis was actually worse than I originally thought, but now I remember Hubie Brown was the one who reigned him in, and Hubie wasn't in charge when Williams got to Memphis. He only started in the 2nd year that Williams was there.

Anyway, I certainly wasn't trying to say he was an All Star, but Parker said:

To me, that says that it was Jason Williams for all the years until now. And no, Williams wasn't doing all that fancy stuff until Rondo came in the league, and he wasn't overrated until Rondo came into the league. He stopped being overrated around 2002, when he became decent. At the same time, his rep. came down because of him toning the fancy stuff down.

    How was Jason Williams overrated?

Nobody considered him a top PG. Most people looked at him as an exciting pg to watch. At best I would think people thought he was solid.

What a self loving jerk... who puts themselves in these sort of things? Although I did agree with the Rondo thing.... I hope he reads it though.

My ranking of the humblest PG:
    Tony Parker
    Stephon Marbury
    Rafer Alston

Derek Rose is my most overrated PG.

    Tony Parker is overrated

    ...
    ...
    ...

    by himself.

He is a great scorer, but he ain't the same PG that Paul, Williams, or Nash is.
