There's always a threat of your best players leaving...but getting Thibs is the type of move that (I think) would help sway Durant to stay.
Thibs is the perfect coach if you want to lose in the first round, your guys are guaranteed to be worn down by the time the playoffs come around, but at least they won 3 or 4 more games than they should have. Sounds perfect for Houston basketball.
I think he's had some pretty good talent. Injuries have been a problem. I think Thibs is the kind of coach that just wears people out. And I don't mean just physically. I think Chicago has underperformed a bit this year.
- Coach salary is not counted in the team's cap. - Unless you are Les' accountant, there is nothing you should worry about an old man want to throw away a few millions each years for the next 3 years. - If somehow the Rockets made it to the final or win a championship, if Les want to resign McHale at that time, it will cost him much more and if he doesn't resign him, the Rockets will look terrible. So actually this mid season resigning is a reasonable gamble money wise. My conclusion is : if the Rockets will have a disaster second half and not making the playoff or get a very bad first round exit like 0-4 or 1-4. McHale will still be gone.
Interestingly, when it comes to coaches, our FO doesn't care about flexibility. Well they can always fire the coach. It's Les's money.
If you guys go crazy on how Mchale runs an offense and his substitution patterns you will go crazy with Thibs. He is a great defesive coach but leaves alot to be desired on offense and will play the players until their legs fall off.
He can draw up out of bounds plays that like actually go to his own team, unlike say, that guy in Dallas There's really not a lot for a coach to do with our roster, we have duplicate players all over the place and very little versatility (like say San Antonio, Popovich can throw up all sorts of rosters, dbl paint front court, stretch 4, jump shooter galore, drive and slash). We have one guy who can create his own or others shot, and no front court player who can shoot worth a damn, what exactly does any coach do with that?
should've fired mchale after the playoffs. could've hired lionel hollins... should've held off giving mchale an extension until next summer... could've hired thibs. oh well.
Predict: 1. (back to) Houston Rockets (top choice) 2. Sacramento Kings 3. Brooklyn Nets 4. Los Angeles Lakers
