It was April 29, I was doing some work at the Woodlands South library, and I go out to my car around 4 PM, and I hear a band warming up next door at the Pavilion. Totally forgot Petty was playing there that night. Thought it was some kind of cover band. Listening to, "Oh yeah, all right, take it easy baby, make it last all night... she was... an American Girl," and I'm like, "Umm, that cover band sounds a LOT like Tom Petty." Walked through the park and stood by the entrance, realized "umm, yeah, that IS Tom Petty" - couldn't see him, but I could hear the whole soundcheck. Thought to myself, "hey, maybe I should go to that."

I didn't go. I won't make that same mistake with any of my other favorites.

Just was talking to my mom...

"Today sucks, just read that Tom Petty died."

    "Oh, the race car driver?"

I've pretty much seen the inside of my skull I rolled my eyes so far back.

    WTF?!?!

Hate how media is always in a race to be the first to report, even if its not correct

I'm glad you included Jackson Browne. Often overlooked. Great composer and singer. Although I can't think of him now without thinking, "I was RUN-ning!" And John Mellencamp, one of the voices of my teens/early 20's.

Those guys in bands: Don Henley and Glenn Frey, I would say.

I was fortunate enough to get to see that show. Took my nine year old son. Joe Walsh opened.......strangely, that was the first of three times I've seen Joe this year. He was at Don Henley's 70th birthday party in Dallas in July, and then I got to see the Eagles two nights ago. Joe turns 70 next month. Can't take any of these guys for granted anymore.

Changed title to update current situation due to some “fake news”.
