Opposite for me, it's about time that they put one here as opposed to pandering towards those second-rate countries. They just gave one to Brazil after all, and you can't trust the Middle East situation anymore. Syria borders Turkey, after all.
The Americas best shot realistically was the following one: 2024. Love to see Houston land it...that would be excellent for our city. Considering that since 2000: 1. Sydney 2. South Africa, 3. Beijing, 4. London and 5. Rio; should have expected an Asian country to get it for 2020...Japan is really nice country...and they surely can use the international commerce from an event like this. Houston should really push hard to land the 2024 Olympics. I hear that Dallas has already started...so has DC, LA, Boston, and of course NYC. Internationally our competition looks to be: somewhere in the middle east or Europe...
I drove by the UH campus two weeks ago and thought, you know what, this could have been the Olympic stadium. And then when it's done, retrofit it as their new stadium.
It's not pandering, they're incorporating a third of the planet as hosts for an ostensibly global event after a century of virtual exclusion. Brazil could probably have more income parity, but it's a first world country. And the second rate comment is just really dismissive.
Houston or Dallas don't have a shot, like at all. If they are going to have it in America, it'd be in a city better served to accommodate hundreds of thousands of people who need to get around quickly to different events etc.
