The Rockets have accomplished something that Orlando, OKC, and even Detroit has failed to accomplish. To go from respect to deserved ridicule in just a few years.

The national media knows it and the local media knows it. At least some of the coaches definitely know it. The players know it. The broadcast booth knows it. And the fans (the smart ones at least) definitely know it. What is this organization doing? Rookie owner, rookie GM, rookie coach are making worse than rookie mistakes - they are making rookie mistakes and not learning from them.

When every opposing team we play is telling you that you are playing the wrong way, there's a problem. When your GM seems to constantly get sub-optimal value on trades, there's a problem. When no one is held accountable on the team - players or coaches or gm - there's a problem. When former players who were soft and selfish here are happier and in the conversation for 6th man of the year when they go to your rival - there's a problem. When your top draft picks are frustrated and seem to give up on plays - the draft pick that was supposed to have a Kobe mentality - there's a big problem. When draft picks don't want to work out for your team, and when pundits don't want great talent to come here - there's a problem. When a player who your organization viewed high but is a laughing stock of the league gets more minutes than any other player despite being the worst player on the court - there's a problem. When you are winning less games you did the year before without any rational explanation - there's a big problem. When your vet tells you there is no improvement - there's a problem.

There are too many problems here and it's plain to anyone who looks. Smoke is everywhere. The Rockets are on the edge. Make the right decisions, and this team could still be on a great upward trajectory. Continue to make bad decisions, and the franchise could be find itself stuck in NBA purgatory for a decade.

There's a lot of smart people out there who are saying similar things. That the situation is fixable. And there's a way to do it. Here's the best of what is being said:

    1. Fire Silas. He's lost the locker room. He's rigid and not the coach that has the right players for his system. Instead of blowing up your team to fit the coach, find a coach that can work with this team and get the most out of players talents.

    2. If you're tanking intentionally. End it. This team is pretty much guaranteed a bottom 4 record. The odds of getting a top 3 pick isn't going to change much at this point. The Rockets are not going to end up with a better record than the Magic, Lakers, or OKC. All this losing is doing is damaging the Rockets brand and making it an less desirable destination for players, execs, and coaches. You already have young players who want out. It's not good.

    3. Get rid of Daishaun Nix and JC. They may be successful one day, but it's not going to be here.

    4. Move KPJ to the wing or sixth man role. Yes he may freak out. But it's not working. It's tremendous what he has accomplished the past few years. Truly an amazing story. But this team does not need a ball dominant scoring pg. You can't sacrifice the development of an entire team for the sake of one guy who may or may not work out - a guy that you have hedged your bets on contractually, but not developmentally. You need to sit him down and explain what you need from the position, and that it seems he's best fit for - and where he will be happiest - is where he can focus on scoring first and playmaking second, instead of the other way around. Right now you need a pass first and pass quickly pg who plays great D to make up for the terrible D from your current starting 2 guard.

    5. Move EG now. It's crazy he is still on this team. The window of getting a first round pick for him is gone. Just like with the Harden trade and others, the Rockets waited too long to move a player when they were at peak value. If you can't get a 1st for him, then get a vet pg and a 2nd who can be a backup

    6. Start Tyty washington. He's raw but he's the best pure pg on this team right now and should be a mile in front of Nix. In a developmental year where you are getting blown out every game anyway, might as well start him and give him the opportunity, and it appears he will do at least adequately.

    7. Run the offense through Al-P and play the man 35+ minutes. Work ethic or not, the guy is clearly the Rockets brightest star and the only thing that's getting any kind of positive attention. Double down on that for the next 39 games. The Rockets have nothing to lose. They are terrible anyway and not getting better this year. He at least gets guys involved and is getting better and better. He brings respect - the only thing bringing respect - to this organization right now. Max his value and if you don't want him, trade him this summer.

    8. Find a good mentor for Jalen. He needs one badly. Whatever the coaching staff is telling him to do, it's making him look bad. His effort is slipping badly and that's concerning. He's losing confidence in himself, not gaining it.

    9. Find a good mentor for Stone. He needs one badly. He's getting the short end on trades and doesn't know basketball as well as he thinks. Find an experienced GM who can help him make better personnel decisions. Including who should coach this team. Do not let him commit $60 million in cap space this summer without it or you risk turning the Rockets into a franchise stuck in 2nd gear. (See NY Knicks).

    10. Build a culture of accountability because there isn't one currently.

Eh didn't really get number 9.

I don't think we are intentionally tanking, silas is just incompetent.

But I agree with most of your points. Nicely done.

I agree with most of this novel, except I think KPJ must be moved off the team asap. He will always cause trouble if he is not "the head honcho". Skills-wise, a 6th man role would make sense, but he is just going to be a bad influence on Jalen Green, specifically. He plays a selfish brand of basketball. Maybe he will work on a team with someone like Lebron James, where it is absolutely obvious he cannot be the "head honcho".

The fact the owner and his son get stat sheets every quarter on their mid court floor seats is all you need to know about how this team is run. Total laughing stock clown show.

the Rockets are currently in the midst of their annual 15 game losing streak

Not only has there never been a team to finish with the worst record in the league 3 straight years, has there ever been a team that lost 15 or more straight games in 3 straight seasons as well?

WOW. Enumerated list and probably over 1000 words. Great effort. Full percentage point is likely here. Tilman will feel this one.
