We can't afford Green. He'll want 8 figures next season and will probably get it from someone. The Rockets don't have that kind of money available. If there's any Spurs player I'm interested in it's either Joseph(if Bev is gone) or Marco(for 3-point shooting off the bench).
I actually think Danny Green might be one of those guys that could look better on another team. His game is pretty reminiscent of Klay Thompson. Not quite as good, or as athletic, but similar. Same body styles, both lights out 3 point shooters, both pretty solid defenders. Klay is better, yes, but on a different squad Green might could close that gap. That squad isn't the Rockets, though. He's a pure SG. Can't play the 1. Can only do SF in limited minutes. The Rockets kind of have that position locked down. Off the bench with 12-15 mpg at SG and 12-15 mpg at backup SF? Sure, I'll take that, but he wants more than that and will get paid more than the Rockets can afford. Good idea, but not happening.
Absolutely no way Matthews makes only 5-6 mil next year, people are saying Bev might be making more than that and Matthews is a superior shooter and defender. He will get at least Ariza type money next year to prove he is healthy, and if so will get much more.
He is 30 and has achilles. Not just any injury. It destroys careers and exremely few have come back the same. I can think of one. Also there is no guarantee if he will be back by the start of the season and ready or will take him more time. This injury destroyed him . Its a big risk for a team to take. Huge risk.
No doubt in my mind Green would flourish as a Rocket. He is not just a good spot-up 3-point shooter, which is exactly what the Rockets need more of but he moves well without the ball, similar to Brewer, and has a super quick release, something the Rockets lack w/ Ariza and Jones. That doesn't mean we DON'T need a PG that can create. But, a PG like Llul is not going to elevate this team all by himself. The Rockets need more firepower. They need a PG AND another SG or wing that can shoot. Also, I'm not so sure Llul is the answer. He may be an upgrade over Beverly but he's not exactly a good 3-point shooter... even in Euro BB where the 3-pt line is closer. For a team that leads the league in 3-point shots we need shooter, and Green fits the bill. Whether the Rockets can afford him is another issue all together. Perhaps Morey can unload some players and create enough cap space to sign some quality players. If not, it will once again be Harden, an often injured Dwight, and a bunch of scrubs.
Green would certainly be a good fit for the Rockets. He's a great 3-shooter and plays defense, what else do we do? It's not like he's the PG The problem is what others have already said... he'll be too expensive. If he wants more than Ariza, then it's not worth it because he's basically the same player as Ariza
Green isn't an Ariza level defender though. Ariza guarded 4 positions in the playoffs this year. Green simply can't do that.
Not a bad idea although he is getting up there in age and he never was a particularly athletic player to begin with. He's maybe got a year or two left in the league unless the Greek Freak finishes him the next time they play.
This player will not put us over the top and does not adress the team needs.....yawn at this suggestion
If Danny Green wants to take a discount, sure. Otherwise, please make Dunleavy to H-Town happen, Morey.
He definitely would. We just can't afford him. Those that say he is a Spurs system product just haven't watched him play. Obviously that helped his development, but he's much more. He shot 44.9% on catch and shoot threes last year. Behind only Korver, Curry, Eric Gordon, Thompson, Redick, and Morrow. He's also considered one of the best 1 and 2 guard defenders in the NBA. If we're going the 3&D route at the other guard spot, he's one of the best if not the best. (Who knows what Wes Matthews will come back looking like) But again, like I said, we can't afford him. He'll get around $12M I would guess.
