My grandmother was still using that up until a few years ago when my mom and aunts finally bought her a cordless phone. You're not the only without a cell phone. I hate them and refuse to get one. I don't want to be connected with anyone 24/7. If I go out somewhere, I probably don't want to be bothered and nothing is so important that it can't wait until I get home. If it's important enough, they'll leave a message on the answering machine, and most of the time they don't.
We don't have a land-line, and we don't plan on getting one any time soon. Maybe someday when we have kids.
