My premise is that this hurts the team giving up tons of picks for moreso than it helps the team that gets all the picks... simply because the margin for error for the picks you have left is that much slimmer.

Once RG3 got injured and busted, the Redskins pretty much ended up performing a patch job to merely stay afloat (in addition to firing a coach/GM). Even now, coming off last year's playoff appearance, they've got depth issues, cap issues, and really could bottom out again next year and lead to another regime change.

And when the star fizzles out, and you have no draft picks left to acquire depth/build around those pieces... you end up franchising Kirk Freakin Cousins.

He's not a bad QB; just doesn't have depth around him because of the RG3 trade

Of course... he's also not a franchise-tag worthy QB either, but like you said, the Redskins have very limited options right now and have to hold on to all possible talent (no matter how expensive... $20 million for Kirk Cousins is quite the investment).

What's up with teams in our division getting #1 picks in the perfect season? Luck, Mariota at 2 and than a fleecing of the Rams with one of the worst #1 picks in years. ****.

IMO this is a damn good trade for the Titans. Freakin' hate the Titans, but this is great move on their part.

It definitely has that sort of possibility... but they actually have to draft the right players and have systems in place to allow for success. Still plenty of if's.

If I was a Titans fan, I'd be more concerned about the HC/GM combo (with track record) they have running the franchise right now... thats a lot of picks to entrust to a HC with no prior success anywhere and a first-time GM.

What's interesting about Barnwell's list - only George and Vick were the first QBs selected in their respective drafts, the rest were second choices. Often, the drop/desperation between 1 and 2 is steep. And, perhaps not surprisingly, Vick and George are probably the two best players from that list.

Here's my thing. Fisher will not use the drafted QB enough to get full value. He's too conservative and the offense will be Gurley and Cook focused. So to give up a king's haul for a QB, when that isn't even going to be the focus of your offense, well, it's going to look bad, and probably will not work out technically either in terms that quarterback's development, or the time Fisher tends to like in terms of develop his quarterbacks. McNair held a clip for like three years right. And Young stalled, so they are going throw someone to the wolves...

As for the Titans, that's a good haul, let's see what they can do with it. I do not think they will get Tunsil at 15, but doesn't really matter, they will likely get State's Linemen (Decker ) or Notre Dame's linemen ( Stanley) , and that's fantastic, and get some talent in 2016 and 2017. They are showing faith in Mariota. In 2017 those two #1's could both be top 10 again, and that's a good draft in terms of mid first RB ( Fournette and Cook ) and top 10 CB.

    Superb Trade: A+ for Titans.

    The Titans win this one.

Matt Cassel was once a franchised QB...

The alternative - no QB in the first place - leaves you sucking too. At least this gave them the abilty to be great had RG3 not gotten hurt.

Certainly agree there's some "if's" at play. Have to make good selections. That said it's put them in a really good position, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. As a Texan fan I hope it doesn't pan out

RG3 got hurt, was ineffective once scouted/prepared for, and eventually became a locker-room cancer... its almost kismet that he's now on the Browns. You can't honestly say he was in the best position to succeed from a surrounding talent standpoint or depth standpoint.

Again, there is absolutely little room for error once you lose 2 years worth of high round draft picks... you need the QB to become a star (almost on his own) AND you need to basically have core pieces intact already (and/or hit on all the 3rd-5th rounders you can).

Boy, I couldn't disagree more. I know its different sports - but this is the exact philosophy that sunk the Astros under McLane.

I don't think either trumps the other; therefore, you can't sacrifice one for the other.

Thanks... doesn't make Kirk Cousins' future prospects, simply because he was franchised, all that better.

    Rams leaning towards Jared Goff??????

Umm they could of just called the Chargers up. I am sure it would have cost them less.

Not if they trade a bunch of picks to #3 only to watch QBs go 1 and 2.

They paid for the certainty of getting the guy they wanted. That's not dumb.

    According to SC's Twitter:

The Los Angeles Rams are leaning toward taking Jared Goff with the No. 1 overall pick. es.pn/1MwTtsc
