Maybe Tenn guaranteed him the job but he had to take it or else they hired someone else. He didn't want to risk it.
whisenhunt's issues were qb. if you give him a good one he has won but he never demonstrated if he can find and develop his own. the question now becomes, how good is locker right now and is that enough for whisenhunt. he's on offensive guy who loves trick plays. need to really build the defense for this division going forward.
A private plane registered to Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford’s aircraft corporation was scheduled to fly to San Diego this morning, but Ken, picked the Titans job first.
I don't buy the "can't develop a QB" stuff. As if they had a different coach, that Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson, John Skelton, and Kevin Kolb could've been franchise QBs. A lot of QBs just aren't going to cut it no matter what you do and you can't blame a guy from a coaching angle if those guys just don't have the talent necessary to be a starting NFL QB. Most coaches are going to do better if you give them good QBs and worse if you give them bad ones. You can blame Whisenhunt for not finding one, but reportedly part of his appeal to the Browns front office was that he doesn't care about having a say in personnel decisions. So I'm not sure how much control he had over the situation in Arizona. Sounds like he's content to let the GM do his job while he simply coaches.
exactly, he should get blame for not finding a qb in a qb driven league. it's the most important position and if he doesn't find it he'll get fired in a few years again. our own BO'B future is tied to our next qb and he knows that. trust me, he cares who the next qb is and will have his say.
He was the Steelers OC for the 1st 3 years of Roethlisberger's career. Warner had his career turn around when he became HC in Arizona. Rivers just had a return to Pro Bowl level after 2 down years with him as OC. I think he has also been flexible to his personnel. Of course, Whisenhunt was a TE, and started out coaching ST & TEs. He has never been a QB coach.
Eh... The Seattle Coordinators are still out there. Whisenhunt would have been a good fit, but they still have a number of choices available.
Why not attempt to find an up and coming coordinator or college coach rather than settle for 3 proven failures? Detroit just consistently fails on so many levels.
I think Caldwell got kind of a raw deal. He was 24-8 in his first 2 seasons but got fired when he was forced to play Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky, and a 40 year old Kerry Collins at QB after after Peyton's injury. He's probably not as good as he was with Peyton, because he had Peyton, but he's also not as bad as that 2-14 team either. I'd like to see him get another shot.
He played Warner because Matt was hurt. They started winning and he left him. The giants never really gave Warner a chance they always wanted to start Eli. I don't know how much he really turned around Kurt Warner. Guy was really good, gets a hurt in St Louis. Is OK with the giants. If you need a HOF QB to succeed how good of a coach are you? Same thing with Caldwell. When you have Peyton just don't screw it up. I give a lot more credit to guys like Chip Kelly or Jim Harbaugh who turned around a team.
