I had to go with Otis, but it's a tough choice between him and Kenny Smith.

Sentiment goes with OT but with Scola around, the need at 4 is less pronounced, so Sleepy would be the best choice.

Another guy who can score on his own, more then decent assist guy, and isn't dependent on spot-ups. As I recall, he was also a little better then Kenny on D.

ot - he is the perfect power forward to put next to yao. that would be just nasty!

mad max or kenny "the jet (who was never actually called the jet when he played here)" smith would also be nice, but id give the edge to kenny - his shooting would REALLY open it up for yao and i dont remember his d being any worse than rafers.

I vote OT instead of Vernon this time, TMac would leave the team if he found out he's being replaced.
    ;)

Actually, we need some extra boards and defense for the Western Conference. Look at what Karl Malone did to us post Otis Thorpe.

Also OT helps for situations like this:

Yao not boxing out Okur or Boozer in game 7 to grab the boards.
    Yao getting into foul trouble.
Yao not dunking the ball, instead does a lay up and misses.

Kenny wasn't that bad on D. Keep in mind the hand checking rules were different and the only people who really abused Kenny were Kevin Johnson, Payton and Harper. Kenny played alright against Stockton.

Remember they got rid of Sleepy to make way for Kenny.

    Fisher,
I can't believe you forgot to put OT's field goal percentage:

    56%

KJ would destroy Rafer (or any PG in the league today), too. That being said, Kenny's defense was certainly worse than Rafer's.

Younger, older, dressed in a bunny suit with a bowtie on his head, it doesn't matter. We could use Cassell.

McCray could offer this team a little bit of just about everything. He would be best - from the list. OT 2nd.

But, Sammy? Come home and lead us oh Sam The Man. Come on home.

I wanna follow the reasoning that Kenny fills a bigger need for us but really with OT in there we wouldn't need Rafer to score and he could play his role well.

OT is so much more tallented than the rest of the picks its really not fair. OT was a beast and with the current makeup of the west PF's we need him. Sure he would have trouble with Dirk but on D but he would probably break Dirk in half at some point and then we wouldn't have to worry about him anymore:D.

I didn't include Cassell because I think his later success post-Rockets would distort the vote in his favor. The Rockets' Sam Cassell didn't really ut up numbers that were that impressive compared to some of the others I mentioned - though I didn't adjust them on a per/minute basis cause i was too lazy. (best rockets year was 96: 14-4 on 43%/36%)

    OT

that's easily one of the best front lines of all time. defensive, strong rebounding (numbers don't really show it because the Rockets jacked up so many 3s, but all 3 were excellent-good rebounders) and Clutch-ness.

i voted maxwell to push bonzi out of the rotation. his defense alone would be a huge boost at the two, and of course you get the 3-point shot when it's on.
