It's just the way the rockets lost it was in a unacceptable way imo. Games where we put ourselves in great position to close outa game a win... we need to win bottom line. Rockets need to be in a championship mind state not in a mind state that says the Lakers are better than us.

Yeah I remember Courtney Lee and Kevin Martin absolutely locking Kobe down in the first half. Let's but Bud on him that'll stop him. Then let's ask Shane to come off the bench and score like Bud.

Kobe hit some contested shots. He's Kobe, you live with those. The Rockets tried doubling him early, he burned them with passes. They switched to (mostly) single coverage (with help behind, of course) and he ended up with 27 points on moderately efficiency.

The Rockets got burned by that late 3rd/mid 4th run by the Lakers bench (during which time the team couldn't hit anything), Battier wasn't on the floor, so why don't we find someone who was on the floor to blame?

Pretty simple. When he was out, we were losing. When he was in, we were winning. The point of the game is to win.

People feel the need to scapegoat someone after any loss. Battier puts up the worst traditional stat line, so he is usually the one. But when you have Brooks, Martin, Yao and Scola taking up offensive possessions, why in HELL would you want Battier taking more shots?

He isn't out there to score. He's out there to help the team win. You can do that without scoring, and that is exactly what he does. It is such an easy concept.

Don't mean to pick on you personally(thanks for the videos), but for a basketball site with a bunch of supposed basketball fans, people sure don't seem to know a heck of a lot about basketball.

That was only coincidence. The Lakers were just bound to start making shots. and then they finally did. They just got hot. Steve Blake two quick threes?

When talking about Battier people have to throw out + and - numbers or some sort of an analysis that shows he is good because on the court when it counts he just sucks lol it's just funny.

I recognize Battier's contributions to this team but I think at this point of his career, his value comes from what he does off the floor. (i.e. during practice, in team meetings, etc.)

It wouldn't hurt the Rockets to give Budinger starter minutes just to see what happens, the season is young after all.

Except we didn't, unless you consider being down 8 in the 4th "great poition to close outa game a win," whatever the hell that means.

If his +/- is off the charts for his entire stint with the rockets, this is a coincidence of "biblical" proportions!

That is the lakers' winning style. They always make a comeback at the 4th quarter. They only play the intense defense during the 4th quarter.

ah, the basketball elitist. that player barely puts up any stats over 30 minutes and does this thing where he covers people eye as they shoot, he must be a sort of intangible basketball god!

It may be, but then again, one game, and certainly one part of a game can always be coincidence. We'll see how things play out over the long run.

The bottom line is that when Adelman needed to turn things around in mid 4th, he put Battier into the lineup. He may or may not be right, but I trust that Adelman knows his stuff and is not r****ded and has a good reason for doing what he does.

Although he is becoming older and older every year, but we still need him to solid our defense. We have already owned many excellent shooters, it's no need for him to make great contribution to the offense. Just keep tough on th defense is the real value of shame!

You obviously dont. When he was off the floor we started losing.

The reason some of throw out +/- stats is becasue some of you watch the game and see someone hit a couple of shots or throw down a dunk and think oh wow that guy needs to start. But you forget about him getting torched on defense, or blowing an assignment that leads to a pass to the open man and a score. But since it isn't his man that scored, you can't see that it was his fault that the other team scored. This is how +/- adds up on the court.

Just because Shane isn't picking kobe's pocket or swatting shots into the 3rd row doesn't mean he isn't a solid defender. He isn't that kind of defender.

Maybe, but as I said, he's apparenlty the option Adelman trusts. One day he won't be, maybe soon, too, but that day hasn't arrived yet.
