new piece of information... "Joiner also was indicted on one felony count of manufacturing or delivering methamphetamine" not looking good for these two... what do you think UT Hug haters? Jan. 25, 2008, 10:56AM 2 Aggie football players accused in robbery case Associated Press AP | USA Today Top 25 | BCS COLLEGE STATION — Two Texas A&M football players accused of tying up and mugging a drug dealer at gunpoint have been indicted on felony robbery charges, the district attorney's office said. Yemi Babalola, 21, and Brandon Joiner, 18, were indicted Thursday on two counts each of aggravated robbery, the prosecutor's office said Joiner also was indicted on one felony count of manufacturing or delivering methamphetamine and two misdemeanor counts of possessing mar1juana and hydrocodone, according to the district attorney's office. Babalola also faces a misdemeanor mar1juana possession charge. Aggravated robbery is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison. Manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison. Neither man had an attorney listed in his court file, and The Associated Press could not find home telephone numbers for them. Neither immediately returned e-mail messages seeking comment. Both players have been suspended pending the outcome of their cases. The indictments were first reported by the Bryan-College Station Eagle. According to the police statement, one resident suffered minor injuries in the alleged Nov. 29 home invasion at the Callaway Villas Apartments. Police said two men entered the apartment, one carrying a semiautomatic pistol. The investigation led to searches of both suspects' homes, where drugs - mar1juana, ecstasy and hydrocodone - and other evidence were found, according to the police statement. Babalola, a 315-pound offensive tackle, played in nine games last season, including six starts. He was suspended indefinitely and did not play in the Aggies' 24-17 loss to Penn State in the Alamo Bowl. Joiner, a freshman defensive end from Killeen, took a redshirt season and didn't play. He was also suspended indefinitely from team activities. Last month, athletics director Bill Byrne said in a written statement that both players would remain suspended from the football team ``until cleared of any wrongdoing.'' Texas A&M sports information director Alan Cannon did not immediately return a phone message on Friday morning.
Look at the number of A&M players arrested over the last few years and the number of Longhorns arrested over the last couple of years. It is not even close. This is a bad thing to happen at A&M, and I am certainly not proud of it, but it isn't to the level of the Longhorns yet.
youre right, UT isnt clean. but im tired of brain dead aggies who continually cite that UT is filled w/ thugs. every college football squad has their share of knuckle heads. the aggies are no exception.
UThug still takes the cake, but A$M ain't far behind. Historically A$M has run a shadier program than UThug. Enormous State U's have destroyed the idea of "scholar athletes", sadly.
yes the number of ut athletes is greater than that of a&m. my point is, a&m isnt clean either. its annoying that some a&m fans like to think that their shiat dont stank.
I think it's more like 6 or 7. Not a good number, but it's not anywhere near your bigtexxx-esque exaggeration.
Excuse me? Please point out any exaggeration I have made regarding this topic. Failure to point out these exaggerations will destroy any credibility you might have. Your credibility is on the line. TIA
According to the Dallas Morning News, there have been 17 Longhorns arrested since 1998. Eight of those were between January 2006 and October 5, 2007 (the date of the article). According to the team's wikipedia entry, Gatewood was arrested on October 6, 2007, which would make nine arrests since January 2006 and 18 in Brown's tenure. A&M has had 13 players in trouble since 1999. While that is not a number that I am proud of, the Longhorns have had 28% more players in trouble than A&M in the last 9 years.
The statistics are a sad commentary on what goes on at the "Enormous State U's" of the world as they w**** their academic/student standards out to win football games (or at least attempt to win them in A$M's case...).
