Like several of the posters in this thread,I come from a strict, religious right upbringing.I've become more "liberal" as I've gotten older in some areas of my life, but not too much politically.Having said that,I'm about 90 percent sure I'm sitting this election out.....there's no way I'd vote Obama, and I'm somewhat [not totally though] disapointed with Bush,so I'm not sold on McCain either.I'm not a believer in voting the lesser of 2 evils,so I guess I'll just watch it all unfold.
which side have policies that would benefit US orientals more? it sounds like if obama wins, middle class will pay more tax. that's where a lot of orientals are pissed about, so i hear from some folks.
Those are all good issues... I would add going back to a more defined separation of powers. Oh, and I don't want to talk to ROXRAN's guns... just take the ridiculous ones.
so can anyone give me a rough idea that which side is pushing for more tax? i am talking about 100k to 250k middle class families.
Obama is pushing for much higher taxes on everything from payroll taxes, to capital gains taxes, to dividend taxes. Basically, if you make money by virtue of holding a job or by having an investment in the stock market, then you will pay higher taxes. Of course, this is strategic for Obama, as neither scenario applies to his voting base.
This is a common misconception. The middle class would actually get a tax break from Obama. The wealthy however would take a pretty big hit.

MadMax -- Please tell me whether the capital gains tax and dividend taxes would stay at their current levels under a hypothetical Obama administration. (I'll help you out -- they'll rise) and Obama is in favor of lifting the cap on social security tax payments...
Based on the tax table that Max posted, the middle class as you define it ($100K - $250K) would do better with McCain as president.
This has been asked before, but would you feel comfortable standing up in front of your church and saying you support Obama's position on GLBT rights and abortion?
absolutely, positively 100%. i'm not a weasel and a ferret. i'm guessing if we took a poll at my church, obama would win.
but please don't base your vote on who will be the next president of the united states over the roughly $1600 maximum difference in income tax you'll owe if you're making that much money. thanx in advance.
Do you seriously want to start a theological discussion over that? Maybe we shouldn't hijack this thread. I can wax on and on over why I've arrived at my decision from my own understanding of who God is. If you want to start another thread about that, I'll play along.
