This new trade makes NO SENSE

At pick 25, Morey had his pick of the flock. He could have taken any of Batum, Arthur, or Greene. For us to make such swaps at picks so close to each other means that ultimately Morey valued Greene the highest. He wasn't going to just drop two spots here, a spot there to pick up second round picks if the dropoff in first round talent was significant. ERGO, Greene was the guy he always wanted.

If you follow that logic, then yes he could have played it safe and taken Greene. But he had intel. He knew San Antonio wanted Batum, and that Portland at 27 did also since Portland is attempting to produce a pale imitation of San Antonio's "international farm system" strategy. So what did he do? He PUNKED San Antonio, colluded with Portland and told them to take the guy he wanted, and that they could have Batum for the mere pittance of their highest second round pick this year. But wait, it gets even better.

Morey must ALSO have known that Memphis wanted Arthur most out of anyone else available to them, so instead of doing a simple two-way with Portland and asking them to select Greene, he asked for Arthur and then blackmailed Memphis into giving up their second round pick in 2009 to trade for him. In summary, Morey got the guy he evaluated as the best (Greene), and out of thin air he pulled two high second round picks.

If he's not the best GM in basketball, I don't know who is.

And btw, if you have a problem with the players he evaluated as the best for the Rockets, ask yourself how such a savvy negotiator as the person I described above, the same person mind you who drafted Brooks and Landry last year to the collective disappointment of all Houston fans and analysts, has not AT LEAST warranted the benefit of the doubt in this similar instance.

Very well written, Spaceman. And very good work, Mr. Morey. He even said in the press conference that the 2nd rounder would be a good chip to use at the trading deadline. With the expirings and this pick, we could possibly land our Pau Gasol-like trade at the deadline that pushes us over the top.

Daryl Morey in just over a season of work has far exceeded my expectations. Of course, he didnt have a lot to live up to (i.e. 3 first rounders for Eddie Griffin...). Very nice work. Lets see what he can do with Free Agency.

I definitely like the final results better than the first selection, which left me scratching my head. But, not even the first few picks of the draft are certain to work out, and some of the lower picks could become superstars. To me Dorcey is the most interesting of the Rocket's picks. He looks scary inside. He has serious explosion off the ball with a Karl Malone body that can "move" people around. His freakish arm length makes him much taller that his measured height. At Memphis he was consistently aggressive, really aggressive. Looks like an "impact" player. Green looks like a project, but not so much as Batum. Morey may be turning the tide of the Rocket's dismal drafting history.

houston gets donte green for better value, and essentially moves up 21 spots in the 2nd round to get dorsey.

memphis gets darrel arthur and an additional 2nd round pick.

that's what happened pretty much, except that i can't be too sure what's happening with that 54th pick..

Agree

Green has all the tools, can he learn and does he have the desire?
I watched Dorsey against UH and he is very very strong in the paint.
He can hold position and he has a nice skill set.

Think about Yao, Scola and Landry and I would say right now Dorsey is a stronger more aggressive rebounder than the 3.

He also has good athleticism and timing and can block shots. I could see our paint defense vastly improved with Dorsey and Yao on the block.
