Things the Rockets can improve on for next season

There are a lot of things they can improve on especially on the defensive side of the ball. As for individual improvements here's what I would want to see from from our top 3 guys.

    Harden
I would like him to finish at the rim like he did in 2012-2013 his first year with us. He was amazing at finishing and I felt like he made everything.
He also obviously needs to protect the ball a lot better and not get so lazy when he dribbles. And then of course defense. While he played a lot better on D this year it still wasn't that good.

    Dwight
I honestly don't think at his age he will improve his offensive game at all which sucks because he doesn't have one to begin with. But something he can fix is boxing out properly. Too many times I saw him not boxing out like he should be which resulted in an offensive rebound and board.

    Dmo
Just get healthy is #1. Continue working on your post moves and 3 ball. If he can hit the 3 at 35-37% constantly on more than 1 3PA that would be enormous for the team. Like Dwight he also needs to learn to box out properly.

Dwight has been the best rebounder for like the last decade... he knows how to box out and rebound.

Not take things for granted. Especially the twitchy fans that don't appreciate the quality of players in the current squad given the salary cap and other factors. It's more about keeping these pieces together and building chemistry.

My Top things James Harden needs to work on during the summer.

    1. Learn to shoot a floater or a runner. I notice a lot James tends to drive to the hoop and get blocked a lot, when he actually has enough space to shoot a floater or runner. I think sometimes he is in search of fouls too much and doesn't realise that he could shoot an open floater or runner. Curry has used this move quite well and used it in the playoffs against us.

    2. I think James needs to learn to make quicker decisions when he has the ball, we all see during ISO plays he will dribble and try to dance with the ball and then end up fumbleing the ball or pass it to someone else with 5 seconds on the shot clock. I would like to see him doing his dancing and driving earlier in the shot clock with dribble drives and kicking out and perhaps returning out to somewhere on the 3 point line to receive an open 3.

    3. I want to see more iso plays in the post closer to the basket instead of iso plays from the 3 point line. he is a strong guy and I think he can back guys down easily and use a Dirk type shot.

    4. Practice 2 man game with Dwight over the summer, there are many times Dwight was calling for the ball to be above the rim rather than a bounce pass. They are both so lucky to have eachother. I think they need to use each other more.

    5. I know James uses a lot of energy for his offense, but I would like to see him play off the ball more and be screened for like what JJ reddick gets with the clippers. I know we need another ball handler for that but I still think someone like Josh smith can look for him.

I think J Smith at the PF position
shot 38% from the 3pt line at 4.2 attempts during the playoffs. Can't ask for much better than that!!!!

I get what you're saying, but that's also the nature of the beast. All of those guys are streaky. It comes with the territory, otherwise they would be starters.

Rockets need to run a offensive half court system! To many times the players are yelling at each other about where to stand on the court and who should set a pick at what on court position. It seems like they are completely lost on offense sometimes

I'm warming up to the idea of Collison a lot. I dont know what his defense is like but 1.3 PPS is VERY good for a non-star. He will get plenty of open looks from deep and room to drive playing with Harden. He shot 47% overall and 37% from 3 on a struggling Kings team. I can't help but feel those percentages will even go up playing a more supporting role to Harden and our bigs inside. Defesnes won't be keyed in on stopping him but he will feast on the lack of defensive attention.

His salary is very reasonable at ~ $5M per. He is more of an attcking/scoring PG than a "run your offense" PG but I think he brings enough to the table offensively to keep the wheels moving. TJ+Pap should be enough to get it done if they are able to bring in Lawson.

I don't know what Portland's plans are but I wonder how highly they value CJ McCollum. If they are commited to Lillard as thier starting PG a tweener like McCollum makes a terrible backcourt mate for him. I wonder if TJ+#18+(anything else) could convince Portland to bite. This guy would go nuts feasting on open looks playing beside Harden. This guy can fill it up and has the size to at least bother PGs with his length. Its probably not a possibility but who knows? Stranger things have happened.

If only Yao could come out of retirement to backup Dwight.. He doesn't even need to play the reg season or entire playoffs. Just against Bogut, he has Bogut's number.

I'd take Brewer over Smith 1000x. I think we keep both.

We need another Ariza/Brewer 3 and D type off the bench.

A strong D PG who's efficient in turnover ratio.

And a backup C who can control the paint. Could be Capela with a summer of weights & Dream school

Why would Brewer go to OKC? They don't have any money to sign him(at least not more than the Rockets). They've got enough to worry about with Kanter and matching whatever offer he gets.

Wish I could rep u bro. Floater is key. N the dribbling is pa rt of James game..better or worst. He uses it for separation since he isn't very quick

Needs a turn around jay. But I think he won't ever get that because the turn around requireso either length or speed

So if I had to choose....smoove over brew. I though brew played too out of control. So did amoove but I think a energy 3/2 is easier to find then a play making 4 that can defend..sometimes

There needs to be improvement in transition defence and defence in general. And thats not only on Harden. More disciplined rotations and switching and practices and accountabillity.
