Ottoman, I guess I just find it hard to accept that Hitchens and Basso, for that matter, are not trying to play the old shame on you as you don't support the veterans because you don't suport the current war, as they have done so frequently. I did not see the article as being so heart felt and free of an agenda, though I guess that could be partly due the constant aggressive pro-war rhetoric of the author.
so are we in iraq for iraqis or for americans? what benefit is civil war in iraq to me and my children?
That's where he really veered away from a nice Memorial day piece. There's no question, as far as I'm concerned, that he should have left that out. It demeans a great deal of what went before. Keep D&D Civil.
The second to the last paragraph is the crux of Hithens' essay, if one is keen enough to rip apart the pretenses and rhetorics. **** is hitting all over the place in Iraq. Neocons need a moral boost to their major screw-ups. It's a shame Hitchens had to resort to belittling a grieving mother who lost her beloved son in Iraq. It's even more morally reprehensible for Hitchens to link the current Iraqi War to American's noble involvement in WWII. Shame on you, Chris.
It's kinda ironic. Iraq is one of the finest examples one could find of how war has unintended consequences, and should never be entered into, except as a last resort. Keep D&D Civil.
