They didn't trade up because they didn't want Bridgewater.

They passed on him once, and didn't really make a significant effort to trade up one spot to get him. It they thought he was gonna be a great NFL QB he would be a Texan right now.

Not saying whether they were right or wrong, but i would say it's pretty obvious they weren't that high on him.

sorry I shouldnt post on the BBS right when I get up. I dont know what I was saying by stating that Minny paid a heavy price...What I guess I was trying to say was that the Texans 2-1 and 4-1 had much more value, especially for them to move up just to move up 1 spot. That is a very high price to pay for the Texans. Seattle wanted to move out of the 1st round(i think for financial reasons), and they were hoping to fleece the Texans. For the Texans, an offer of 2-1 and 5-1 might have been more justified to just move up one spot.

Finally Savage was selected with the supplemental picks in the end of the 4th round. The Texans were able to snag Louis Nix late in the 3rd round from Phili in exchange for 4-1/5-1...Louis Nix has 1st round value and was a steal at the end of the 3rd round.

It's crazy to think texans could've had teddy & clowney

-I live in houston support the texans but Vikings have always been my #1 team since MOSS, still would've been cooler for him to be in houston.

Yep. BO'B doesn't want a dumb, skinny QB. Can't learn the offense and will get hurt. Not worth it

That they passed on him at #1 doesn't mean they weren't "high" on him..and it sure as hell doesn't mean they weren't trying to get him at 2.1. There were lots of guys they didn't take in the draft...that doesn't mean they weren't "high" on them.

I'm not sure about the bolded part. If they wanted him at 2.1, I don't see why they wouldn't have matched Minnesota's offer - they'd have been trading their 2.1 and the pick they used for Tom Savage, who would be superfluous anyway. And from my understanding of NFL rookie contracts, you'd rather pick him at 1.32 than 2.1 anyway, because you get him on a longer-term rookie-scale deal that way. I guess it's possible that the Texans offered but Seattle preferred Minnesota's picks (40 & 108) over the Texans (33 & 135) but that seems unlikely.

Or it could be simply that the Texans had Savage ranked as the best quarterback prospect on their board... He does fit the O'Brien mold.

I don't know why some are so blindly opposed to TB but missing out on his potential at QB by one spot with the texans 2nd rounder is/was a risk reward possibility that I just think was too good to pass on.

Because that's the type of quarterback he recruited at Penn State and he passed up on Johnny, Teddy, Carr, and Jimmy when he had the opportunity to draft whichever one of them that he wanted... And he did say before the draft that there weren't much separation between the quarterbacks so despite the size, maybe Savage was the #1 quarterback on his board period because he passed up on Blake, Zach, and Logan as well.

All this butthurting over the Texans passing on a future clipboard holder is hilarious. Let it go until the guy actually proves himself as even a decent nfl qb.

If Savage was the #1 QB on his board he would have been taken higher than the 4th round.

Assuming they were aware of it in enough time to do something about it.

Savage jumped from college to college and has limited playing time. Taking him in the 4th round was taking him higher. They may could have got him as a UDF or got him in the 6th-7th round. Fact remains they could have had any quarterback they wanted but picked Savage... So maybe they believe he will be "The Guy."

Haven't checked any of Minny's boxscores - how has Bridgewater been doing?
