    Argentina underestimating Mexico, as usual.

    hehe

btw: is this Argentinian player a decendent of the Nazi's or what?

Just curious Smeg. How does Australia go about qualifying for the Olympics? What teams do they play to get in? Do they just have to beat New Zealand and then they are in?

think it normally just comes down to us or NZ, although there may be some sort of tournament, for the world champs last year NZ beat us, adn then they went really well, so have a funny feeling we don't even have to beat them for athens and both us and nz get in. i presume if others in the region wanted to qualify then there would eb a tournament of series against us.

I remember reading about NZ and Aus. getting in based upon some Oceania tournament. I think they were the only 2 in the tournament, so they both got in anyway since Oceania had 2 spots available in the Olympics. I could be wrong about that, though...

who cares about Australia...we are derailing the thread. ;)

How about Ginobilli's shooting in the games, so far?

Ya know. Argentina was the first team to beat us. Looks like Najera caught them napping ... hehe....just like they caught us napping.

sorry to derail the thread hp! ;)

it just doesn't seem fair that Australia and NZ get to the Olympics so easily while in the tourny of the Americas someone like Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, etc. might not qualify. ???

yep - the boomers and the tall blacks get straight in...

    from fiba.com

The Oceania Championships for Men and Women will be conducted in various regional and metropolitan centres in Australia in September. The Championships will also serve as the qualification games for the 2004 Olympic Games. Only Australia and New Zealand have nominated teams for the Oceania Championships.

Because of the success of the NZ Tall Blacks and the Australian Opals in the last World Championships, the FIBA Oceania zone will be entitled to enter two teams in the men's and two teams in the women's basketball programs at the 2004 Olympic Games. The Oceania Championship results will determine the seedings for the teams at the Olympic Games in 2004.
