Will be interesting to see who emerges. GOP likely to have a majority in the Senate after the election this year. IIRC Republicans have a very favorable map this election cycle.

    the wise find strength
    in stillness
    just as the turtle

what caused this announcement by Turgle face.?

on the heels of Trump’s victory in South Carolina, Pressure has been mounting on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as he lays the groundwork to do what was unthinkable just a year ago:
endorsing Putin's useful idiot for president in 2024.

He’s about 10 years too late, the damage is already done.

Funny how there magas ignore the turtle's impact on the current ussc. They will miss him after they rush some mike johnson equivalent and the Senate will be just as much as a circus as the house.

I said this in the other thread but it is fitting that he is retiring from an institution that he revered yet undermined its standing for a
Party he dedicated his life too. A party where a large part of it now despise him.

McConnell as majority leader embraced the idea that what mattered was power and that the political ends were more important than process. As such he felt he could simultaneously use Senate rules when they suited him and run roughshod over them when they didn’t. It’s also why even though he knew that Trump and others were unprincipled and damaging to the US it was more important that they could get him his goal of conservative takeover of the judiciary.

He’s spent the last few years decrying the state of US politics as being divisive and chaotic. He’s seen some of his issues blocked by members of his own party who either are more interested in causing chaos in service of a movement driven on grievance or who are too afraid of losing their own power. McConnell bears a lot of responsibility for the politics that we have now.

Pelosi stepped down from leadership after 2022 and this is her last term in the house.
