I suspect they are older. Have no idea about liberal Repubs, but I suspect they’re older too

...been asking myself that for about as long as I've been alive...

    ...especially in regards to African-Americans.

Playing both ends against the middle in regards to racism in this country works (after a fashion) for white people only...

...and a few industrious non-whites, too, who know a good horse trough to feed at when they see one.

"American Hustle", I believe is what you'd call it.;)

...Can't define what "conservative" or "liberal" is when both "sides" adhere (to varying degrees) to a "founding" tenet of our nation—you build whatever you want at the expense of black (or feel free to insert your very own special "other" here) people.

That's not everybody. That's probably not even a majority, especially accounting for the past 50 or so years.

    But there's enough.

Should have figured there'd be a price to pay for having all those Nazi scientists smuggled into the country after WWII and made part of the American "family"...assuming, of course, there was ever any real problem with what Nazism was about in the first place...

Funny thing...the late George Carlin grew up an Irish kid in Harlem. He grew up around Hispanic and Spanish and Black People. When people asked him why he spent so much time with those people, and not as much with his "own" kind, he said that he liked them. They had better music. They seemed happier. They were more inviting and tolerant and inclusive.

One thing Carlin said he couldn't understand, however, was this notion that black people were going to get treated fairly in society adopting non-violent methods. He made the point that the Irish only got their independence from Britain after they kicked the **** out of them...so all these clamors from certain corners about another "American Civil War" aren't really all that far-fetched...especially since it's been done before and we can't seem to get the story straight as to why it happened that first time...

Those conditions have actually been facilitated by incubating the very things that that first war was supposed to eliminate.

More than a few people are at the helms of government and the military who harbor those sentiments. More than a few people at those levels are sympathetic to the notion...just something to be mindful of, not personally advocating for another war myself.

There are plenty of things, as human beings in this country particularly, we can quibble and argue over.

What racism is and what its ends are should not be one of them. CAN NOT be one of them, actually.

Not picking a side...or saying "...they're doing it too..." or "...pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..." is a cowardly answer.

...and too many brave people have already died to satisfy the needs of cowards.

im not sure how the party that continually runs up the debt, shamelessly increases the deficit, engages in protectionist trade policies, tariffs and multi-billion dollar farm subsidies can call themselves "conservative".

Trump never was a conservative and neither was much of the Tea Party.

Dude, 8%... 8 out of every 100 black voters voted for Trump.

Most black people understand that Trump and the GOP agenda isn't going to fix their poor school districts, fix their lack of access to affordable healthcare, fix their crumbling local infrustructure, push for programs that will help poor black parents that are stretched out thin by giving access to universal early childhood education programs.

They understand the GOP tactic to "help" the poor urban black community is by chastising black culture and being "tough on crime" aka more incarcerations.

What is racist is conservatives saying that black people have been duped into voting Democrat and that wellfare has ruined black culture when wellfare programs are determined by income level and not race suggesting that only black people are anti spy free stuff and are lazy when they get free stuff compared to other races.

He's funny, just because there are rich black people who like Trump and his policies (take Kayne for instance), people think it's impossible for Trump to be racist.

It's the whole, "I'm not a racist - I have black friends" line

Trump's view of race and relationship with it is as simplistic as he is a straight up racist. It is very clear he has had no problems being friendly and even supportive of individual black people. It wasn't that long ago that he was on very good terms with the rap community, more than just Kanye, and was on friends with Al Sharpton. That still didn't stop him having racist rental policies in his properties or going after the Central Park five in racial terms. What I think drives Trump's bias is far more class, fame and wealth than it is straight up race. He clearly loves being a celebrity and seen with celebrities which includes rappers. The same hedonism and love of excess that permeates many rappers lifestyles Trump himself enjoys. With someone like Sharpton Trump recognized and respect how much influence and carried and that he too was a celebrity.

This is the same pattern we see with other groups. One of the hallmarks of Trump's campaign was banning Muslims and calling them out collectively as terrorists and a threat to the US. That has stopped Trump from cozying up to the Saudis and defending them even to opposition from the GOP. Saudi Arabia is the country that is most responsible for the spread of Radical Islam yet that country was never on the travel ban and it was the first foreign trip that Trump made as President. Both the Trump and Kushner families have many business dealings with the Saudis and wealthy Gulf States so it shouldn't be any surprise that even as Trump thunders about the dangers of Islam and the need to ban people from poor war torn countries like Somalia and Syria he welcomes the Saudis.

This pattern of bias towards fame and wealth even extends to how he views his own supporters. I brought this up in another thread but it is should be very clear how little he respects his supporters. He continually tells obvious lies to him. He's bragged about how they are basically in thrall to him. He's mocked their religious views. His rallies focus on either stirring up anger towards his enemies and bragging about himself. Rarely does he seek to uplift his followers or inspire them with their potential but instead portrays them as victims that only he can save. He views himself as Professor Harold Hill of the Music Man and his followers as just another dumb hick River City to fleece.
